Had a very strange reaction to reading this, someone else please read so we can talk about it.

Was a bit hard to get into but definitely worth the read. Tells the story of how her mindset and views changed with new experiences and with the social justice movements. She speaks on violence against women, and the lack of rights in many other groups of people. She values knowledge and education and peoples stories.

Solnit is a stunning writer. This memoir of her coming-of-age in San Francisco in the 80s is at once deeply personal and wonderfully broad. She manages to situate her individual experiences within the changing landscape of the city she came to call home, using her delightfully charming studio apartment as a home base for herself and readers. Solnit explores themes of gentrification, violence against women, queer culture, and West Coast activism.

Amazing. Should be required reading for all women and their allies. I'm fangirling!

Poignant, smart, beautifully written. Parts of this book were pretty triggering, like sent me into a few nights of nightmares, but once I got past that I devoured the rest. Sometimes it feels like a lot of recapping of previous works and Hope in the Dark is still my favorite, but many beautiful and hard and smart pieces in this collection.
