I think jumping in at book 6 pulled this down for me -- I kept getting distracted by trying to figure out dragon anatomy -- opposable thumbs? 4 limbs or six? Moon's power seemed pretty horrific, and her solution rather short-sighted.
The characters are more nuanced than the earlier books and the series gets better and better.
I was pleasantly surprised by this one! Moon is definitely my new favorite character and I wish she could keep narrating the series. Let's not switch over to Winter for book 7 please, I think he's going to be a lot like Starflight who was very boring!! Moon is the most interesting perspective by a lot, for reasons that you'll see if you make it all the way to book 6!!
Honestly I just love the Wings of Fire series so much, the characters are really lovely and so is the world, it's just lovely all around. When we meet Darkstalker that was awesome because we've got this 'big bad' but don't know if that's just a ghost story of if he really is nasty. A lot of people love him, I personally don't mainly because I don't trust him, and someone with that much power just can't live. It's cruel yes, but honestly with his power to just create something like the magical scroll we see, well he's better off dead. Moon was awesome and provided great insight to the rest of our new cast through her mind reading. Qibli is especially interesting and I need to know more about him, I also really need to know more about Turtle who has secrets we don't know about. With that 'good future' we saw there were a couple things I was confused about, namely the colouring of two of the dragonets, Firefly was dark purple, which was interesting because Nightwings ( the closest dragons in colouring ) only come in black/purplish scales but never purple. More interesting was a dragonet who had deep orange/brown scales that 'Moon had never seen before.' For both of them it means either means Rainwings, ( but Moon should've seen the deep orange/brown colour before ) or, mixed tribe dragonets.( Or they could be a completely different tribe, I don't really thing so because surely Moon would've noticed other features, and coding this kind of stuff in a possible future is kind of insane. This whole mess of a theory is kind of based off of the covers of later books ) Yeah, this review is obviously a mess but hey, I had to spew my thoughts somewhere.

2015 Reading Challenge:
A Book Published This Year, A Book With Non-Human Characters, A Book Written By A Female Author

DISCLAIMER: This is the first time I've ever read anything from the Wings of Fire series.
In a way, this book reminds me of Avatar: The Last Airbender, in that it has well-developed characters and is written in a family-friendly manner, and does not shy away from the "heavy stuff", like domestic abuse, post-traumatic stress, the lasting and devastating effects of war, and the intricate facades that we all create and wear in our day-to-day lives.
Also fascinating (as well as deeply unsettling) was the relationship between the dragons and the "scavengers" (the dragons' aptly fitting term for "humans"). I personally saw many parallels between how the dragons treat the "scavengers", and how us "scavengers" treat dolphins and whales in the real world. It's only a small sub-plot in all of the complicated goings-on, but it's biting commentary.
Well, now that I've read this book and thoroughly enjoyed it, I have no choice but to procure the rest of the series. I don't think I'm ready for this kind of commitment.

Um so I remember really liking Moonwatcher and mind reading. That is all, folks.
This is the one thing in all of the media that has made me want to be able to read minds. Good job!
