*Warning: This review may contain spoilers if you have not read this book or the other books in the series*

Dear lord, I swear each book, in this series, just keeps getting better and better. And I just keep falling harder and harder for Tod. Yes, My Soul to Keep was amazing, Rachel did once again a brilliant job. She took me on a trip, a journey into Kaylee’s world, to the Netherworld, the world of creatures that are unique, interesting and creepy.

If you haven’t started this series, or keep putting it off, I suggest you start it now! If you like a intense paranormal story that takes you into a world that is both unbelievable and believable, combined with passionate love and romance, drama and other worldly creatures that kinda scare me, The Soul Screamers Series is a series you have to start!

‘Hellion equals evil. Period’

Kaylee’s life is just one Netherworld adventure after another. Just when she thinks she can have a moment of peace, well, that all goes down the drain. And fast.

Kaylee just wants to spend some normal, none hellion involvement, time with her hot boyfriend. Normal is just so hard for her though.

That doesn't happen, 'cause it seems normal just doesn't like Kaylee. Something is going on, and it involves people that she knows.
Something is going around her high school.
A drug from the Netherworld.
Demon’s Breath.
And it has killer side effects.

So once again, Kaylee takes matters into her own hands. She has to stop Demon’s Breath from spreading or normal, teenage humans will start getting addicted, lose their minds, or even die from this Netherworld drug.

Kaylee just can't seem to catch a break.

‘The supernatural world is so far from fair.’

I always love the feeling I get whenever I enter into the world that Rachel created. I am able to get lost and go on an amazing journey. One filled with so many emotions. And I am able to absorb it all, feel what the characters are feeling, the despair, the hope, the love, and the bravery. Each book also seems to be better than the next one, and once I finish one, I have to start the next book in the series. It’s quite addicting. Not only is the story of Soul Screamers captivating, but the characters are also very intriguing. I saw growth in them all. I even fall more in love with some, some I got to know better, and others, well, aren't on my ‘good’ list.

What I love about Kaylee is how she takes matters into her own hands. If she can help, she sure damn well! I also saw strong character growth with her, she has always been strong, but with each book it just shines more and more. When she sees that Demon’s Breath is being consumed by people she knows, she acts. She knows she has to do something. It seems that trouble always seems to find Kaylee. She is a female character that is both strong, and very brave.

Then Tod, the whole time I was reading, I just kept chanting Tod’s name. TOD TOD TOD. Okay, maybe I’m board lining obsessed. But I just love Tod’s character. And in My Soul to Keep, you get to see him a lot more of him. I also felt you get to know him better, too. Get a glimpse of just who Tod is. And boy did I love that!! I always enjoy Tod’s sense of humor; it had me cracking up with every ‘dead’ or ‘reaper’ joke that came out of his mouth. Also in MSTK, we get to see a friendship build between Kaylee and Tod. Which I enjoyed. I cannot wait to see and learn more about him!

Now, Nash has never been one of my favorite characters, I don’t hate him, but I don’t love him. I can stand him, but he’s just not one I practically enjoy. One thing though, as sweet and charming as he is, I could never really, and still can’t, see why Kaylee loves him. And in this book, their relationship really gets tested. It gets put in the spotlight, sort to speak. The pressure is put on them, in many ways. From the beginning of the series I have always felt something off about his character. I guess I just can't fully trust him.

Also, many other familiar faces are back, along with some new ones, too. Some I am was happy to see, some not so much.

From the beginning of the book I took a guess as to what was going to happen. Something I felt might take place, and well, it did. It was a bit of a predictable twist. But even though I figured one event out, that doesn't take anything away from the story, it didn't make me want to give up on the series, or stop reading, actually it had the opposite effect. I'm even more addicted.

Rachel’s storytelling, her way of writing just pulls me in. So much has happened in this one book, that I couldn't control myself and picked up the next book right away. With the nice pacing of the story, the character growth and a world that is very much creepy as it seems real, I was able to get lost in My Soul to Keep. I cannot wait to see just where Rachel is taking this series!!

First up I have to say that the blurb on the back of the book isn't like the blurb above. Well it is but instead of saying "Kaylee and Nash have to cut off the source and protect their friends—one of whom is already hooked. And so is someone else…" they actually have who that someone else is on the back!! In the book we don't actually find out who that 'someone else' is until about midway through but the back of the book has already given it away!! I was so angry because through the whole book I knew exactly who was addicted to the drug. From then on I don't really read the blurbs of series anymore because I don't want it to give away what the story might be about.

I thought the story was ok but I wasn't ever dying to find out what was going to happen next. The idea of humans inhaling demon's breath as a drug is really cool but the ending let me down a little bit. Mostly the book was a bit forgetful. Trying to write the review now is hard as I can't remember how I felt about the characters or the story. There was one thing that disturbed me was when Nash told Kaylee what the demon did to her and also what Nash had to give up to the demon, I got really upset for Kaylee and felt for her during those moments.

Otherwise I think it was an ok read but I'm just really disappointed. I think I'd still like to read the rest of the series but I'll wait a while before I get the next one.

Wow. Did that really just happen?! It was a great book, yet so heartbreaking. Should I have seen the coming?! It could be a possibility that I read reviews from all books in the series before I even started any of them, and this is why I knew something would happen between Nash and Kaylee that would make everyone "Team Tod" but, finally the puzzle pieces are coming together.

I am loving where this series is going though. I seems that every book we get into we learn more and more about the Netherworld and its so-called creatures that exist there. Plus, the incredible new mysteries that unfold.

SpoilerThe one thing I seemed to enjoy more so in this book then in the last, is that we get to spend a lot more time with Kaylee and her adventure on her own. Her own decisions, her badass attitude that finally comes out, and her own heroism. She did so many hero-like things with Nash always on her side. Not that I hated it, I mainly loved it a lot more when they were alone doing "other" steamy things *sigh* but for once it was great to see Kaylee handle her own independence. I wish I could give her a huge *high 5* for that.

And then there's Tod, oh Tod. Why oh why weren't you like this from the beginning? For the first time (okay maybe second) I have seen a side to you that screams "ILOVEYOUMORETHENMYSELFTORISKMYDEADLIFE!!" okay that was long I know, but really. When Tod punched his brother for what he did to Kaylee sent my heart soaring. That my friends is a guy in love with a girl. Then when he stared at her and held her hand has if to say "you belong with me" *swooons*

So what does this mean for the road ahead? There is only one way to find out.......

The cover:

This is one of my favorite covers because of the pink in it ^_^.

The storyline:

Okay. So the story in this sequel is pretty amazing!

What I love about this series is that each sequel is related to the previous one(s) and at the same time the story is unique. I was intrigued by Nash’s sudden change of moods, how Kaylee noticed something wrong was going on. It was hard to predict the story which is amazing!

At the end, seeing Addison’s comeback was thrilling, Avari’s return on the other hand was creepy.

The writing style of it was awesome, as expected, Rachel does a great job of describing the necessary stuff and leaving the rest for your imagination to work on :).

The characters:

Kaylee is strong as always. She faces her fears even when they’re scary and make her cry (like me). I just wonder how she can stand her cousin Sophie, who’s a total pain?!

Nash surprised me in this sequel, I didn’t expect him to be so selfish and to sacrifice what they had for… well, you’ll have to read the book to understand what I’m talking about ;).

Tod is mainly the hero in this sequel and I think he deserves to be. If there’s anyone who’s truly loyal to love that would be him. He made a huge sacrifice and the consequences were very bad. I love the Reaper!!

Addison’s return was one of the many shocking events in this book and it was a pleasure to see how she reacted in the story. No wonder Tod loves her!

These were mainly the most important characters in this story, in my POV (point of view). I’m not going to mention neither Avari because he’s a pervert nor Emma because the whole story she was whining upon Doug….

My favorite quotes:

Speaking of bloodthirsty hyenas…

A car door slammed in the driveway ahead and my cousin, Sophie, stood next to Scott Carter's metallic-blue convertible, her huge green eyes shadowed dramatically by the streetlight overhead. –Chapter 1

Naturally. Because detention seems like an appropriate reward for someone trying to save her school from a deadly Netherworld toxin, right? – Chapter 5

"Emma?" I backed slowly away from the bed, my phone clenched in my left hand, as a strange, heavy, fluttery feeling settled into my stomach. Like I'd swallowed a swarm of iron butterflies. "Not exactly…" A low, scratchy, unfamiliar voice said as my best friend's mouth moved.

My heart rate exploded and my pulse roared in my ears. "Who, then, exactly?"

"I am Alec. As presented through Emma Dawn Marshall."

As presented…?

Whoa… – Chapter 17

I'd played intermediary between Nash and Avari. The hellion had used me as his own personal walkie-talkie.

And Nash had let it happen. – Chapter 17

Tod, if you're involved in this, I'll kill you! Except you can't kill someone who's already dead.

But I could get him fired…. – Chapter 18

Aaaand here comes the catch… -- Chapter 18

Luck? We were depending on luck?

Nash is so screwed…. – Chapter 18

"Tod! Get your invisible butt down here!" Or up here, or over here, or whichever way he'd have to travel to get to me. – Chapter 19

But more than any of that, I was thankful for the possibility he'd shown me: that a man really could love a woman enough that he'd do anything to protect her. That's how much Tod loved Addy. That's how much I wanted Nash to love me. -- Chapter 26

Conclusion:

This is by far my 2nd favorite sequel in the series. I can’t wait to get started on My Soul To Steal, but first, I need to finish Reaper .

Wow! I didn't know that the series would just keep getting better and better. I was surprised by the supernatural take on addiction to drugs. Who would have thought to use Demon's Breath as a drug to get high?

In the third book in the series, Kaylee and Nash discover that someone is selling Demon's Breath to teens at their school as a new drug called Frost. What the teens don't know is that Demon's Breath is not only addicting, but it is also fatal and brain damaging. If you take too much you can start to have delusions permanently and even die. With the help of Tod and other familiar faces from previous books, Nash and Kaylee need to figure out who is behind the sale of Demon's Breath and stop it before it spreads further. What Kaylee doesn't expect is how easily someone close to her becomes addicted to it and covers it up.

My heart broke with this book when the reveal was given to the reader. I picked up on the clues and even knew it was going to happen, but it didn't stop my heart from breaking at the pain it caused for Kaylee and for the reader. I didn't know how the author was going to redeem this person and I couldn't figure out what this meant for the main characters of the book. With the addition of new players in the fight for souls, you will find yourself confused on who to cheer for because you start to like all of them even more. I even fell a little harder for sweet Tod when he goes corporeal and defends Kaylee near the end of the book.

I can't wait to see what is going to happen in the next book! I need to know how the fallout from this book is going to work out in the next one. I need more Nash, Tod, Kaylee and Emma! A series that still grips me from page one up until the end!
