One of my favorite books we have in our children library collection. We are working on adding more diverse content to our collection and this is perfect. It made both my husband and I cry the first time we read it and has opened great conversations with our kids about all different types of things.

Words cannot explain how much I love this book! Beautiful story about acceptance and being yourself! The illustrations were simple and still eye catching.
The only reason this didn't get a 5 star review is because the shadows on the other characters were a little confusing. In some scenes, some girls had blue shadows and some boys had pink. And at one point the main character was the only one with a pink shadow.
But this is definitely a book I'll read to my class again! Absolutely loved it!

Một cuốn sách siêu đáng yêu viết về giới, sự đa dạng giới, sự tự nhận thức và sự chấp nhận của bản thân về con người thật của mình dưới góc nhìn của trẻ thơ. Trong câu chuyện, chiếc bóng được ví von như hình ảnh về con người thật của mỗi nhân vật, và nhân vật chính của cuốn sách này là một cậu bé lên 5. Khi mà cậu cũng trải qua từng giai đoạn để có thể tự nhận thức con người thật của mình và học cách dũng cảm đương đầu với nó. Thêm nữa là hình ảnh người bố cũng rất đáng yêu, người đã hoàn thành tốt cả vai trò của người mẹ và người bố trong chính gia đình của mình. Thêm nữa là truyện được kể có vần điệu lắm, đọc siêu cuốn luôn. Cuốn sách này cũng là một minh chứng rõ ràng nhất cho việc có nên dạy về giới cho các em từ bé không, thì câu trả lời là có và nếu có ai đó nói rằng các em không thể hiểu được hết vì quá khó hiểu thì cuốn sách này ở đây để đập tan suy nghĩ đấy. Vì câu chuyện được viết ra không hề khó hiểu, từ ngữ cũng đơn giản mà không bị mất đi bản chất, nên ai đọc cũng hiểu được cả, họa chăng người lớn thì sẽ dễ đoán được nội dung nhanh hơn thôi.

Man, this one is cute and fun. This book tells us a story about gender, self-identified, self-acceptance and more the freedom to live bravely as you want. In the point of view of a young kid (around 5), we went through the whole process from self-identification to self-acceptance written in easy language, cute and colorful drawings. This one's existance is the the reason why I support giving lessons about gender to young ones instead teaching them at older ages like before.
