I loved this book. I just finished a couple minutes ago whilst I was bawling and listening to frank ocean. One of my all-time favorite fantasy books. Adrenaline will be induced, my heart and chest are still recovering. I love Bree and I connect with her in so many ways.

6 hours - I cannot put into words how I feel about this book. It feels so much larger than just a book. All of the characters were just so so likeable, and their interactions made me physically react several times, which is something that rarely occurs for me. All the characters were so cleverly developed, and the plot was so interesting and engaging, and the ending was just perfect. It discussed so many important issues, and not only discussed them but so expertly wove them into the story itself. I'm going to be thinking about this book for a while.

I had extremely high expectations for this book given that I have heard nothing but good things about it, and I am happy to say that Legendborn lives up to the hype. However, the book was slow at the beginning and I wasn’t immediately drawn into the story. There was a lot of terminology thrown around, making it difficult to understand the “lore.” Though, as the story progressed, I felt myself getting lost in the world and the lives of the characters.

This book was beautifully written and I appreciate the depth given to each character. Bree’s grief was palpable and I’m glad we got to see her journey through navigating her feelings regarding her mother’s death. I enjoyed the other characters as well and I especially appreciate how Selwyn developed throughout the story.

Being from North Carolina, this book felt extra special. I love the way history was intertwined with the book’s lore. Also, the Bojangles mention! Loved it. Even though it took me a bit to get into it, I really enjoyed this story and the way the Legend of Arthur was presented. I’m excited to see what the next book has in store :D

This is AMAZING! Such a beautiful and raw take on grief, racism, and slavery. The world building was incredible, the characters are so lovable and real, and so many plot twists to keep you on your toes. In short, just read it :)

This was a ride. Literally the only way for me to explain it at the moment. I was taken on a roller coaster of emotions and I loved it. If I could give this book a hundred stars I would. Bree’s journey of self discovery, navigating her grief and trauma…It all just hit home.
Tracy did a wonderful job showing just how much  slavery impacts Black people by taking Bree through memory walks with her ancestors. She shows how much of a hole not knowing where you come from or who came before you can leave. It’s a hole that I know well and I honestly cried 😂.
There are even characters that will have you pissed at first but then as the story progresses you get to see them in a whole new light. Making Bree and Alice best friends was also 👩🏾‍🍳💋. Alice is ride or die for Bree and vice versa. This story is one that can teach a lot of lessons but also take you for one heck of a ride filled with magic and secret societies. It’s astounding and hands down one of my favorite reads this year. I cannot wait to read BloodMarked.

I just reread this due to the sequel coming out shortly and loved it as much this time as when I originally read it in 2020. It is well thought out and developed. I like that it allows me to see a perspective that I cannot otherwise appreciate (of a black girl in the south) using a great storyline in a way that was real and not preachy. There is great representative and well handled discussion of difficult subjects. Tracey Deonn also wrote such an awesome refreshing novel take on the King Arthur legends, I am incredibly excited to see where else she takes this version of the Round Table.

Okay, wow. Wow wow wow. This has been sitting on my shelf for about 2 years and thank GOD I happened to pick it up now, less than a month away from the release of the second book. Because I think I would have DIED if I had to wait 2 years for the next installment.

Honestly, this is one of my favorite books I've read all year, and I'm not a huge YA person. But Bree is such a magnetic character, and DAMN do the mysteries in this book never stop coming. Deonn's mastery with weaving in the reality of trauma and being a black woman in America put Legendborn on a whole other level for me, though. Between all of that and then the LGBTQ representation to boot, I am never gonna shut up about this book.

All I can say without spoilers is I cannot wait to see more of Bree and to follow her in her journey. And...okay, yes, I am a teenage queer at heart and want more Sel, too.
