One of my favorites as a kid, but it doesn't seem as magical now. Still a nice little story.

I’m still trying to figure out if there’s a political subliminal message in this children’s book.

Cute Christmas book. Mr. Willoughby's fancy Christmas tree is a little too tall, so he cuts of the top, and the top is passed down through many families, each of whom cuts off the top, allowing the next to have a tree, right down to the mice!

My six year old loved this book and I, myself, thought the illustrations were charming. However, I was completely distracted by the relentless trimming of the Christmas tree top. It was a personal failure, I suppose, of not being able to suspend my disbelief. Some picture books are not for adults.

Mr. Willowby has been waiting for his tree to be delivered, and when it finally comes, it’s too tall! So they cut off the top and throw it out. The gardener picks it up and takes it home, where it is too tall again. So they cut off the top and throw it out. Each time the top is cut off, a new family gets use out of the tree.

This is a nice one that I could see children enjoying year after year.

I love the picture of how the over abundance blessed others. I wonder how this story could be reframed to teach sacrificial giving.

"Oh wasn't it grand to have a tree, exactly like Mr. Willowby?"

This book is adorable but... is it just me or is this a Christmas book about "trickle down" economics?
