Started out ok but started to drag and go around in circles! Ending was also kind of anti-climatic. I’m not having a very good time with thrillers rn.

4.5 overall I'd say, Linwood Barclay always hits the spot when I want a well written crime thriller :) There were layers within the mystery which kept me intrigued while also letting me have my own guesses at the perpetrator. I think the stakes didn't feel as high compared to Elevator Pitch or Trust Your Eyes, but the characters were nonetheless well written and the ending hit the right notes. (Also I wish the endorsement quote on every book wasn't Stephen King, come on Linwood you can do better bestie)

The dreaded reading slump. We’ve all been there. Thank you, Linwood Barclay for snapping me out of my rut with your latest page-turner, TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY.

The unexplained disappearance of Andrew Carville’s wife Brie has left his life in shambles. Six years later, her disappearance remains unsolved despite unproven accusations of Andrew’s guilt. He has made a new life for himself when multiple sightings of Brie are reported that calls everything into question.

My mind was reeling at every turn as I tried to piece together what actually happened to Brie and who was responsible. Linwood Barclay masterfully led me down multiple paths of suspicion with a large cast of potential suspects. I was never confident in who could be trusted and each of my elaborate theories for Brie’s disappearance turned out to be dead wrong.

If you’re looking for a slump-buster in your reading, TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY is just the book to sweep you away with its clever twists & turns.

RATING: 4.5/5

4 This one was a truly fast-paced read. Congrats Lindwood!!! Brie vanished 6 years ago without leaving the tinniest clue about her whereabouts. Her husband, siblings and mother all of a sudden have to face what seems to be her comeback. But things are not that easy. Events escalate one after another to reveal the truth behind Brie’s disappearance.

Take Your Breath Away is an extraordinary psychological thriller written by Linwood Barclay. It is an engaging read that will have you guessing right until the very end. This is a must-read for fans of this genre. This book is available now.

When Andrew Mason’s wife Brie suddenly disappears while he’s on a fishing trip, Andrew becomes the primary suspect. The police have yet to gather enough evidence to support this accusation, but almost everyone in their town believes he murdered Brie. In order to gain some anonymity, he changes his name and moves to a neighbouring town.

Fast forward six years and a woman who looks like Brie appears at the couple’s former home with a bag of groceries and asks what happened to her home? A neighbour reports this to the police and also notified Andrew. When the second spotting of this woman transpires for her family to see from a distance a whole series of events cascades and secrets from the past are revealed.

The characters are well-written and for the most part relatable. The story is cleverly disseminated, providing the reader with just enough information at any one time to have them hypothesize the events leading up to Brie’s disappearance. I wanted to finish the book in one sitting.

While there are snippets of violence in the book, it only adds to the drama. As a sensitive reader, I did not feel at any time like I wanted to close the book and walk away. The author is a master of detail and keeps the reader guessing what actually happened to Brie. He writes with clarity such that the plot is easy to follow and engages the reader. I look forward to reading his next book.

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
