This book started kinda slow for me but one sentence about 70 pages in completely hooked me! After that the pace slowly speeds up and I had a hard time putting it down. The sexual assault scenes in the book are not super long or graphic and did in fact matter to the story, which I appreciated as a survivor. I do not generally read books w SA but based on other reviews I went for it and I’m glad I did. This is dark academia perfection. Can’t wait to start book 2!

What a journey, I loved everything about it. Lethe’s world was so vivid, and Alex a phenomenal POV.

If you grabbed a golden cauldron and mixed Babel, Supernatural, Breaking Bad, and the Illuminati together, you’d get Ninth House. Dark academia turned demonic murder mystery, this book was a great surprise. While slow at points, the main character truly drives this story. Her banter, inner thoughts, and quick wit had me snorting. There’s a whole cast of characters that were difficult to follow at points, but this was a very enjoyable read that left me excited for the sequel.

I really enjoyed that the main character is an imperfect person. Alex is a good person but doesn’t always follow the rules or do what you might expect the “good guy” to do. She fails, she doubts herself, she hurts people who did bad things, and she find love and acceptance from a group of friends who seem to get her. I’m really excited to read the next book!

Amazing book and descriptions but the violent scenes sometimes felt like they were written for shock factor rather than adding to the story. I really loved the plot and the build up but it felt slightly rushed by the end. Overall though, I was totally immersed and couldn’t wait to keep coming back to the world, I fell in love with Alex and Dawes’ friendship and the world building was great.
