2009: Another Regency reread. I really liked the emotional arc of this book, but the author had to kind of bend over backwards to make the hero heroic again, after making him the villain last time around. And the last "action" scene wasn't to my taste, but she made up for it by making the emotional scene after it fantastic.

Obviously this was utter nonsense but contained all the tropes I like so it was terribly good for me, gosh.

Evangeline "Evie" Jenner has to get away from her relatives who are trying to force her into a marriage that sounds like it could be unhealthy for her prolonged future, they already beat her for minor "infractions" of their will, she's starting to see choice disappear.

She chooses to use Viscount St Vincent as a husband. He kidnapped her friend, headed for Gretna Green before being stopped, he needs money, that she has, she needs a husband, and with her perceived flaws maybe he will cope with her; she's willing to give him all the freedom he wants, but what happens when he starts caring...

It was entertaining and the characters really mattered to me. The outcome was pretty well flagged from the beginning but I found the journey interesting.

Well that was, quite simply, lovely. This book had everything I want in a historical romance and more. First of all, I read it is a day of compulsive reading. I simply had to know what was going to happen next. Second, the characters were well developed, funny and strong. This book revolves around the progression of St. Vincent and Evie as individuals and as a couple. St. Vincent starts this book out as a villain (incidentally I wished I had read Wallflower #2 before this book because there he literally serves as the villain) until gradually, and believably he changes from a "muff chaser," self-absorbed layabout to someone who allows himself to be kind and loving. I actually liked St. Vincent from the start despite his villainous behaviour because he is really funny and even when he pretended not to care he was still caring. Evie was delightful and her interactions with St. Vincent were swoon worthy.
Sometimes when you really love a book you don't have much to say, which is where I'm at now. It was an awesome blend of historical elements and romance, the plot was really engaging, and the character's individually and as a couple were likable and dynamic. It was just great, take my word for it. Go read it! As for me I'm off to start the first book in the series :)
