The last of the Ranger's Apprentice books, this was very fun, and Horace finally got a chance to shine on his own. Everything wraps up pretty neatly at the end, the only complaints I had was that the story was rather predictable. Selethen coming along just to "get the gang back together" seemed a little forced. The depiction of Japan was cool, although maybe somewhat Westernized (like North Africa/Arrida in previous books), but not enough to be jarring, I felt. It has been a great series, and this is a worthy ending.

I have now read all 10 Ranger's Apprentice books that are released thus far. They are fun stories with likable characters. The only thing I have against them is that sometimes the plots are so predictable and transparent. After reading just 2 or three chapters you can predict what is going to happen in the end.

A good story, as usual.

The final installment of my beloved Ranger's Apprentice series (sob, sob). Horace is training in Nihon-Ja to better his talent as a warrior, but when the Emperor's place is challenged Horace takes up arms to help the Emperor and his men survive. Meanwhile, an Aruluen diplomat sends word to Princess Cassandra who enlists the help of Halt, Will, Alyss, and Selethen (from Erak's Ransom) to help save Horace and in turn the Emperor of Nihon-Ja.

5-9th grades.

I loved this book. The Emperor was one you totally respected and would stand beside. The gang (Will, Horace, Halt, and girls) were all their likeable selves. Book is one of my favorites.

I really enjoyed this last book of the Ranger's Apprentice series. I loved the culture and humanity that Flanagan puts in his stories.

I thoroughly enjoyed the accurate and awesome Japanese culture. Will, Horace, and Halt have been all over the place and have seen many cultures, but this one is my favorite.

I loved how this book focused more on Horace. His character and morals really showed through, and I think he deserved the recognition. I wish the ending had gone on a bit longer, but it ended very nicely. I just know that the gang had many more adventures, and I'm sad that I won't be able to read more.
