I am really not a fan of Leinil Yu's art- he pretty much makes every single character look as gritty and unattractive as possible.

This series is the one bright spot of this whole Civil War/House of M debacle

Hot damn that was an exhilarating read. Bendis is writing his ass off here, he’s in top form.

It switches between events throughout the arc and it’s done to maximum effect.

New Avengers continues to be a great read especially if you like the Bendis way of operating. I loved every page of this and highly recommend this.

5 stars.

bendis just does not miss with new avengers. i mean, you can’t put together a team of sexy funny people and expect me to not become absolutely obsessed with it. leinil yu’s art is gorgeous as always. LOVED the twist at the end so much. the “another neighborhood starbucks coming soon” sign on the sanctum sanctorum is hilarious. dr strange is SO COOL in this. i love peter’s exchanges with cage and i loved the bit where clint and peter were exchanging quips while they were fighting the ninjas. i could go on and on listing all the parts i loved in this but i think i will just leave it there

When the Superhuman Registration Act was passed, many heroes refused to register and went underground. Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Spider-Woman, Iron Fist, Wolverine, Luke Cage, Hawkeye and Jessica Drew are some of those who refuse to work under the US government's control. Instead, they split their time between opposing government forces and with their usual superheroing. In this case, that means saving Maya Lopez, who took up the mantle of Ronin but was eventually overwhelmed by Elektra's Hand ninjas.

The writing is clever, easy to follow, and gives a good feel for the characters and their histories with each other. The art is much better than I'm used to getting in modern comics, which generally seem to compete to hire the least talented artists possible. Alex Maleev's work in the first few issues is a beautiful marriage between comics and Klimt:
Leinill Yu's work is good, although there's too much heavy shading for my tastes. And he does occasionally gift us with something ridiculous like this:
Spider-Woman's amazing anatomy!
I don't care how many superpowers Spider-Woman has--her boobs shouldn't be as big as her head and twice the size of her waist. Stop drawing shit like that!

This is the one with the fight that kills Skrull Elektra.

I just lost a huge write-up. Ugh, Firefox.

#22 - Art by Alex Maleev. Clint Barton goes looking for Wanda Maximoff, who killed and resurrected him twice. Unsurprisingly, I love it. Spooky (Clint approaching the closed door) and sensuous (Klimt-referencing kiss).

#23 - Art by Leinil Yu (sigh). The New Avengers, hunted by Tony Stark's SHIELD, rescue Echo from the Hand (Japanese yakuza) and discover that Skrulls (shapechanging aliens) have invaded, occupied positions of power, and are undetectable by means that used to work. I love the half-issue that is basically Echo's monologue (a letter she wrote to Matt Murdock), but the rest is mostly action, which leaves me cold.

I'm giving this a four as an average - 5 stars for issue 26 simply for a beautifully stripped down and understated story and Alex Maleev's gorgeous, perfect artwork. 3 stars for the rest of the book.
