This book is excellent, and had a lot of gems of wisdom in it, much of it very timely for what I've been going through in my life. The author is both firm and gentle, and writes with a steady confidence that helps to digest difficult ideas.
I will admit to having done none of the meditation practices, as standard formats don't work so well with my autistic brain, so I can't speak to those, but the portions of the book that deal with philosophy and human nature are wonderful, as my plethora of quotes should indicate.

He sided with an active serial sexual abuser over a close friend of his, who is a victim. And Lama Rod papers over that with a lot of spiritual nonsense AND then rails against white women who aren’t sensitive to his oppression as a Black man.
The hypocrisy turned my love into rage. Trash this nonsense.

The lama we need during the apocalypse we need. Will be rereading this often over the next year, I think.
This book was beautiful. I had a fallout with my practice after learning of some troubling practices and beliefs of the Lama I practiced under. This book helped me come back to practice in a way that also honored the morals and social justice work that was previously separate from my experience with Buddhism. I loved this honest, modern, holistic text (and the humor!).
