The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown

I read this after getting a rave review from a friend and deciding to make it a book club book. This was a fun read for me! There is more language than I felt necessary and some of the violence is pretty graphic, but the story is so good and interesting. I enjoyed every page of this novel and think the concept is so fun. This will definitely be in my top 5 favorite books of the year. If you enjoy magical realism, consider this a recommendation!

The author did too much telling and not enough showing. It didn’t hold my attention and felt like work to read it instead of slipping into the world.

Listened to audiobook and read along in some parts on the ebook.  Enjoyed narrator’s voices.  Lots of characters and magical books to keep track of.  Liked the last half better than first half.  Favorite character was Mr Webber.

I loved this book. Cassie and her relationship with her best friend Izzie, with the older man and Drummond was so interesting to listen and read. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, with all of its twists and turns. Definitely recommend this book to all my sliding door fans!

Thank you William Morrow and NetGalley for the eARC of The Book of Doors!  All opinions in this review are my own.

I had a hard time writing this review because while I loved this book, life got in the way and it took me forever to actually read and finish it.  I'm glad I was able to finish the last 100ish pages in one chunk thought because you need to pay attention when reading the end!  Brown does an excellent job of weaving all the storylines together and writing a satisfying ending to this complex book.  Overall, The Book of Doors is filled with adventure and magic to create a complex story that will delight any reader who has dreamed of magical books.  I can't believe this was the author's debut and I look forward to reading more from him!

I enjoyed the concept of this book and the endless possibilities the magical books, specifically the book of doors, can create.  I was not a fan of the graphic descriptions of violence throughout the book and was not aware of them prior to reading.
