I came in expecting a beautifully tragic story, but ended up with PWP.
I enjoy a good sex scene, but most of this book is sex and overtakes what interested me in the first place- the concept of love throughout lifetimes and the idea of an endless palace. I figured out early on that I wasn't going to get much from this book, but when a character dies because he doesn't want to stop fucking a fox spirit I couldn't take it seriously anymore.
Also, River treats everyone in his life with such flippancy it drove me nuts. He has people who care about him and are concerned for his well-being and he just shoves them aside. I dreaded getting to his chapters.

I realized the story was going to be more of a tragedy type and I felt like I couldn’t handle that. The characters were good and the writing was really good too. The inevitable swirl to disaster just kept roiling in my gut creating anxiety. So I decided to let it go for my mental health.
