Rollercoaster start to finish, I went into this blind but wow that was crazy, it's about love, betrayal, abandonment, acceptance and magic, really interesting blend of time skipping and the prose and dialogue never felt out of place for the time period.

This book was a surprising and delightful read. It’s a fast-paced book with a unique premise, and the characters from the past are based on real historical figures. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a light page turner.

Unfortunately, this book was not for me. I was drawn to this book because it said it was about two boys who fall in love no matter which life they find each other in, but what I read instead was two boys who fuck no matter what life they find each other in.
I did not like this book very much because of the amount of lust and how we were supposed to believe the main characters’ connection spanned centuries when their relationship was 90% sex. I also had qualms with how the characters were supposed to be reincarnated, except their personalities didn’t have enough similarities. The only continuity was the cycle of their relationship. The biggest redeeming quality of this book was the setting. I loved reading a book where queer people dominated the world, both in modern times and historical.
Although this book was not for me, if you don’t mind insta-lust, you might love this! This has such a great premise, and the setting of the book was wonderful.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing/ MIRA for the ARC!

I enjoyed this sorry about starcrossed queer Asian lovers (men!) across 3 timelines so enjoyable. Great fantasy and contemporary elements with incredible parallels that took me time to put together. All of their stories were so fascinating and I loved the twists! A great airplane read and can't wait for whatever Justinian Huang comes up with next!

I really wanted to like this book more than I did. From the synopsis, it seemed like exactly the type of book that I would love, and the basic outline of the plot itself was fantastic.
However, I think it fell short for me in that it wasn’t nearly as developed as I was hoping it would be and some of the writing choices. The writing itself wasn’t bad, however there were a few stylistic choices that just didn’t gel with me. For example, the use of exclamation points in the narration text was, for me, really jarring. I don’t mind it in the dialogue, or even occasionally in the text if there is more of a comedic tone, but for this, it just did not work for me. That, along with a particular pseudonym being used for certain parts of anatomy and that in the present day section, a real life celebrity shows up to talk to the protagonist, it failed to maintain the epic, sweeping, romantic tone I was hoping for.
I truly did not mind that the ending was tragic, either. In fact, I absolutely adore tragic endings. However, with the weird tone stuff from earlier in the book, it made the ending fall a bit flat for me as well.
