The Last Battle

Si, me sentí nostálgica.

This book is so full of racism I don’t even know where to begin. We have the main characters doing blackface in the first few chapters, and when Trinian washes off the paint or whatever it was, he says he “finally feels like a real human again”, not to mention the fact that the Calormenes were called “darkie” by some characters. And it’s not even like I didn’t already know there would be racism, but oh my god, this was the worst of all the Narnia books by a long shot.

Also, for a book that is as anti-establishment and anti-slavery as this is, it baffles me that so many of the ideas in this book were founded in the systems it is criticising. Seems like C. S. Lewis only had a problem with slavery when white people/animals were the victims.
