I didn’t like this book as a kid and I could not handle it as an adult. I know that it’s an allegory about important things, it’s just so hard to read. The ape makes me so frustrated and uncomfortable, it’s all so depressing… anyway. The whole beginning with the donkey in the lion skin and the manipulative annoying ape… I hate that whole part.

I absolutely love all the other books. I’m sure I’m not understanding the deeper truths that would allow me to see this book as the work of art I’m sure it is (C. S. Lewis is the best). It’s just too depressing and painful to read for me!

Maybe I need to be enlightened or educated in some way to see the beauty of this book…

Lewis is laying in the Bible allegory real thick in these last few Narnia books, but I didn't mind it too much. I have to give it a high score on behalf of the whole series. I genuinely loved reading it. I think the whole series is beautifully written. I find the imagery to be so vivid - I could see the characters and the scenery so clearly in my mind's eye. Reading the whole series back to back was a really special experience for me.
