Great insight of a teenage boy on the autism spectrum as well as our judicial system. As always there was a lot of research and information.
This is the first time that I actually predict the ending of a Jodi Picoult book early on. The thing was, because I was so used to her throwing these twists at the end, I figured that's what she wanted us to think. Thankfully, though, I feel satisfied as a reader knowing that I solved this one midway. Totally should have 116 Jodi Picoult notebooks, just like Jacob. Solved: page :200

⭐️ 5/5 This was such a well told, well thought out novel. Jacob is an 18 year old boy who is obsessed with forensic science and has Asperger's. When he's accused of murdering his skills coach, the question remains - did he do it? Told from several POV's, Picoult intricately shows how the lengths familial love goes. I particularly enjoyed how each POV had a unique font choice, that, in my opinion, went well with that character. Additionally, each character had their own voice and tone. So often when authors do multiple POV's the tone/voice blurs into one, but Picoult navigated that well.
The book had me hooked and was hard to put down but it also made me extremely frustrated the more I read because a very obvious conversation(s) that should have happened with Jacob never does!! I wanted to pull my hair out. When at the very end, the truth is revealed (which was easy to figure out early on), the “ending” that comes is just so unsatisfying. You take us on this long, frustrating journey, just to give us no real closure? Big no no.
I can never decide if I like Jodi Picoult. I am always so conflicted when I finish one of her books. I am consumed by the book - I can't wait to finish my day so I can read more, I wake up in the morning and read, the mystery of it all always goes to the last page. But there are always gaps and questionable literary motives that always leave me with a bad taste in my mouth. Yet, I know myself, and if I see another one of her books at a used book sale that I haven't read yet - I will totally pay that 50 cents to buy it.

I love almost all of Piccoult's books. I listen to them often while on trips. Her particular way of writing a fictional account of modern day happenings is amazing. She does much research into locations and the subjects she writes about. Love her.
