This is way outside of what I normally read but because I love this authors work, I gave it a chance. It was extremely well written, which I imagine was challenging because of all the military content. I found this book intriguing, and I actually learned some things also. If you like military thrillers, give it a go.

I thought I knew what I was getting into with Jinx, but it surprised me at every turn!
The book is penned as a thriller, but feels more like a drama to me, with us following the main character Aimee as she deals with her trauma after serving in the army, complicated romantic entanglements, and the skeletons from her past coming back to haunt her.
The cast of characters was very strong throughout the book, with each feeling real and likeable in their own way. The shifting of POV between present and past served to create an intriguing and gripping story, with each chapter revealing just to enough to make you want to know more. It was tough going at times going through Aimee's lowest moments, but they were very well-written and always felt authentic.
The pacing felt a little off to me, with most of the thriller elements and action happening >80% into the book. Although the build up to this point makes for great reading in its own right, it means the climax happens very quickly.
I did not see the twist coming - although whether that's because there weren't enough clues or because I wasn't observant enough, I cannot say!
All in all, a great book and a solid read. I will be checking out more of Jessica's books.

This fast paced thriller really surprised me! I stopped regularly reading thrillers a while back as I was continually disappointed, BUT THIS BOOK DOES NOT DISAPPOINT!
I absolutely love a dual timeline, and this story flowed beautifully, intertwining both the 'then' and 'now' until we ended up at our conclusion.
I got a couple of days into the buddy read, but then I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN ππΌ
I don't think I've read *any* military thrillers before and I found the 'then' chapters so insightful into military life and the rehabilitation of soldiers. I was rooting for Aimee the whole way through, despite many questionable decisions. I also had a soft spot for Jones no matter how hard he tried to be an absolute arse! I would absolutely love to see more from both of these characters!
If you love a pacy, un-put-downable thriller, this one is absolutely for you!
Thankyou so much Jessica for my copy as part of @buddyreadbooknook 's first book tour! π«Άπ»

''But am I jinxed now?''
Jinx is an incredibly gripping, fast paced thriller with a hint of romance mixed in.
This book had me completely hooked, I devoured it in a day.
The story follows British soldier Aimee Price and her journey following on from her time in the army and everything that happened after her life was changed forever when her and her team were involved in a horrific accident during which she saved Jones' life. Twelve years later Jones is arrested for a murder he claims he didn't commit, but can she believe him?
I absolutely loved Aimee, she was incredible and I loved her chemistry and back and forth with the MMC/love interest. I also adored her two best friends Cindy and Dot who were absolutely hilarious.
I'm usually sceptical going into a thriller/romance but this book balances it all perfectly. The plot was incredible and had me guessing the whole way through with a plot twist that I did not see coming, as well as giving us the perfect amount of backstory for all the main characters and the perfect amount of romance sprinkled in all the right places.

Well written, complicated characters that you alternate between wanting to punch and rooting for them. A departure from Jessica's 'Dark Self' trilogy but makes for addictive reading.
