The book itself wasn’t bad but the quippy footnotes that are included were extremely distracting and will very likely keep me from ever being interested in the rest of this “series”
Like the spice was hot, but the Retelling of Hades and Persephone was really only clear in the author laughing at her own jokes until the last handful of chapters and I think the footnotes actually take away from the otherwise fine writing.
Disappointing, honestly.

If you want to read a dark romance book with not one but two rather insufferable main characters with an equal amount of side characters that are equally annoying then this may be your book( I really only enjoyed Jonas that was about it)  the story starts of strong but then starts to devolve really quick. Characters backgrounds get brought up then forgotten, we get a rehashing of the previous chapter from the other main character a couple of times. And the female leads family is downright unlikeable (which is the point but it got really frustrating. Nothing says love like sending thugs after your daughter to scare her and her husband? Who you brought up to be a killer? ) unlike other dark romances where the characters try to work out issues with each other. These two just don't and each time one tries to bring up an issue the other just answers with sex and it doesn't get resolved ?  This was not the book for me maybe others will enjoy it but I think I will give the rest of this series a hard pass.

*4 stars*

This was a book I really wanted to read as soon as I saw it appear. Mainly because it was recommended as a retelling of Hades and Persephone and it was a ‘you touch her and you will die’ trope with mafia ties. I loved the premises of the plot that was set up as well as the intro of the ‘hero’. The story is told in dual point of view and each is written from first point of view. It does have a bunch of trigger warnings so be aware of that before you read this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed the read and read it in less than 24 hours.

“But it’s so hard to care when she feels like heaven on fucking earth. Like a goddess coming. Down just to save my wretched soul from damnation.”

This was so bad and then there were also really bad narrators

DID NOT FINISH: 20%

This book was a mess.

I would give this a 3.5 - j enjoyed very thing except for the fact that he slept with her mom. He was like 40 years old and held her as a baby when he want banging her mom. That was just weird

Tiktok recommendation with so many failed promises. I usually find mafia trope boring but this one was so.. bad. Stupid and annoying horny characters, no plot, no sense. And the whole mother daughter triangle yuck.
The cover is pretty, made me eat more fruit.
