bel017's review against another edition
Compelling writing. I wanted to keep reading even though I didn't like most of the characters or the plot.
I enjoyed the first half, but struggled with the themes of the second half.
Making a relationship where one member isold enough to be the other's GRANDparent seem reasonable is not OK. And I would have liked to see some positive female representation. All the women were either objectified or blank spaces (parents, the house keeper etc.). There's an off-page conversation between Pella and Judy, but this book fails the Bechdel test.
The ending felt like the author didn't know how to end the book so just kept writing.
