I gave this book 1* because of the inappropriate comment about it always coming back to the parents and going as far as to name a child who went missing a few years ago in the Algarve.
That's a despicable thing that the author did and totally unjustified.

Know the difference between a kidsitter and a kidnapper? Gripping in every word imaginable - as compared to a Gillian Flynn thriller - that definitely wants you to read it in one sitting.
Elisa is at school to pick up her young daughter, Lucia, who expresses a keen interest to go on a playdate with a new arrival at the school. The school environment feels safe, so why not entrust your child to a complete stranger! Then! The request comes through for Lucia to stay the night. "Well, okaaaaay"; and that is the last time Elisa and her husband, Frederik, hear from their daughter. I just adore psychological thrillers like this, set in Norway, full of secrets galore from practically all of the characters. From the outset, something made me feel so tingly down my spine. Something wasn't right when Lucia, age seven, was so excited to go on a playdate with Josie, her new best friend. Somehow this did not feel right at all, and it made me go into red alert mode.
It takes the reader in unexpected directions and isn't afraid to lob in a few curveballs. I liked it best for the insight into the character's minds and the intricate plot twists which were nicely woven into the storyline. I really enjoyed having each character's POV being the central part of each chapter. Some of them are done in the first-person perspective, while some others are in the third-person perspective. The reason why is because we want to be in the victims' shoes; experiencing their internal trauma and/or confusion. The third-person perspectives of certain characters make the reader look outside the box and trying to understand the complex jigsaw puzzle we can't solve…until the very end. Give this one a read!
Picked this up in the library on a whim - I am a sucker for a thriller and this one sounded great.
It went off in a different direction than I expected but I couldn’t put it down and really enjoyed the author’s writing style (split narrative, multiple viewpoints) and the plot. It kept me guessing and was well rounded off. Would definitely read more from the author!

An Audio book. Very well performed. I’ve not read anything by this author before but shall be looking out for his books. This was an excellent plot brought to a convincing conclusion
one thing i find absurd - is this obligatory for the norwegian police to hold a press conference every freaking time they find something new, even if it compromises their operations? this makes absolutely no sense.

Loved this read! Finished it just over a day and although I had a hunch for the general idea of the ending I was still surprised by many different aspects and twists.
