A great continuation of this intriguing and different series of myth & magic. The story-line continues to be engaging as it slowly reveals it's secrets, the art is gorgeous, and the world-building is deep.

Re-read Sept 2018: SO GOOD. This series is wonderfully detailed, and even better on a re-read because I found even more layers to the story. Of course, the art is so busy with details that it's easy to miss things when reading through it the first time.

Original rating was 4 stars, but was so good on re-read that I'm increasing it to 5 stars.

Beautiful and compelling, but also seriously dark. Many of the characters are as scarred and evil on the inside as they are bewitchingly beautiful on the outside. The artwork is amazing and the story continues to draw me in. I try to read it only in small sections, to avoid just ripping through it.

This is next-level, next-generation, next-step fantasy that employs rich narrative, immense world-building, dazzling art and a deeply compelling perspective. Simply marvelous stuff throughout, and a very rewarding read.

I guess this is just way over my head. The art is phenomenal and the world seems legitmately awesome; but I just don’t know what the heck is going on the majority of the time and I am just looking at all the pretty pictures.

Oh well, to each their own. I’m just going to go read things that make me smile and cry all at once and not make me feel like an idiot.

I believe this was better than the first book. I don’t know which i love more—the details in the story or the details in the art. It’s all so sumptuous and you can just bathe in it. The details of the history and the language and the mythology are incredible. I really want an adult coloring book of the artwork. The detail is so extraordinary that I find it soothing to just gaze at the patterns. Takeda must revel in coloring it all in.

#3 needs to come out sooner than later.

This one is better then the first volume. We finally understood what was going on and why she had the monster.

Kippa is so cute ♥️
I can't wait to find out more about Maika's past :(

4 1/2 stars.

Loved this going to have to get the next one. Story is great just like the art.

Maika's journey continues, as she tries to retrace the steps of her mother, Moriko, in the past. Enough is revealed to keep the story moving, but there is clearly a lot more to find out about how Maika became what she is, and what it means for her world.
