My least favorite so far. Lord when is the soap opera dialogue between Jeffrey and Sara gonna stop. Also a lot of subplots and plot points got swept under the rug such as the Tessa plot. It was wrapped up too nicely at the end too
3.5 stars. Just didn't quite make it to 4 stars.
***SPOILERS***
Maybe it's to do with a grown woman calling her father "Daddy", or maybe it's the constant "love me... Leave me alone... Love me... Leave me alone" aimed at Jeffrey that was peppered throughout the story, but I wanted to slap Sara Linton by the end of this book.
I loved how this story started, even though I was crushed that Tess' baby was killed. The story had so much promise and I was keen to find out who was behind it all. But instead of some gradual dawning of insight or a triumphant "aha!" moment when I finally work it out, the perpetrator stumbles across Lena and just opens up about everything. Everything! It was like the author had realised she was over her word limit and thought, "I better wrap this up quick."
I was so disappointed, especially after loving the first 2 books in this series.
I'll keep reading the series because I'm hoping Lena comes good. And I loved the end where Lena takes her knife out of the hiding place... The knife with the broken tip! Great twist!
I know other reviewers have said (about Lena), kill her or fix her. But I like her character. It challenges me. I'll take Lena over Sara any day. I'd kill off that whiney Sara or pathetic Jeffrey before Lena.

The third of a dark series of books. The plot is subordinate to the development of the main characters and also to their relationships. Looking forward to the next in the series.

I really enjoyed the first book in the series. The second book was well-written with compelling characters, but the very dark subject matter—while it kept me engaged—was not something I “enjoyed” reading. This book was off-putting for different reasons.
Firstly, the number of grisly murders that take place in this small, backwater town is starting to stretch the bounds of credibility for me. If it was set in a bustling metropolitan area, it would be totally believable.
Secondly, Lena is problematic for me on two levels. Although l am appalled by the brutal attack she survived in the first book and felt quite sympathetic towards her in the first two books, she is such a snarky b_tch with a chip on her shoulder large enough to crush an elephant that I really found myself intensely disliking her. And her involvement with Ethan just boggled my mind. I really don’t get that, or her. It made this a lesser book for me than the first two.
