Strangely romantic? A book I never knew I was looking for til now. Recommended (highly!!) for fans of the Hainish Cycle. 100 out of 10.

My first full length horror & my first Butler! Truly a wild wild ride. And I’m still not sure what to make of it. But I think of this story often. I could read people’s writing and theories about this story forever.

Rapey tentacle aliens just aren’t for me. Wanted to like this more since I did enjoy Parable of the Sower.  It was very slow going for a bit, only because I wasn’t interested in this world or the characters. Maybe it’s the effectiveness of the writing but I was just very uncomfortable with the Oankali after a while and I’m not keen to revisit that feeling. Interesting premise but not enough for me to want to continue with the rest of the series.
