Cute grumpy/sunshine couple I love to root for. Fun Omegaverse shenanigans and spicy sex scenes. Easy happy ending. Strong-willed female protagonist.
What's not to like, especially after a long reading slump?

Steamy, sexy, shifter fun! This was…somehow way steamier than I even expected, and I’ve learned that’s not the genre for me. The first bit of the book — pre spice — was a ton of fun, and I couldn’t put it down. But once the spice started, it took over and we basically lost all sense of the original plot or character personality. The side characters came in and out for convenience, and even the main conflicts fell by the wayside as we just got steamy scene after steamy scene. The writing also could’ve used some copyediting — put me in, coach! — and that fact combined with the spice often had me skimming scenes. Nonetheless, when it was good, it was a ton of fun, and I’ve at least learned more about my reading tastes. And who doesn’t love some good ‘ol fake dating!

noah taylor the man u are...

God, this was so good! I love Noah & Mack together and also having their fake relationship not be like all the hundred others I've read. Noah 120% falls first here while Mack is just like "the sex is good 🤷🏻‍♀" and I love seeing a man simping 🤭

With all the tropes, I was scared that this was gonna become one of those books that only consisted of tropes but everything was really fast-paced and I managed to read this so quickly.

The A/B/O stuff is well done but I don't think we would've needed the shifting! Just makes the worldbuilding that much more complicated and I feel like it didn't add much. Still torn on whether "alphas get discriminated against, too!" is really the storyline we need but it was also a nice new twist

Such a feel-good romance with amazing smut, 10/10 would rec

I'll preface this by saying that apparently I didn't read the blurb closely enough because I did not realize this is an alpha/omega book. What I learned is that, if this book is emblematic of alpha/omega stories, they probably aren't for me. A bit too much emphasis on biological imperatives and traditional gender roles—and I would wager that this book probably has better impulses than most, given the lengthy discussions of nature vs nurture as well as Mack's strength and independence. Ultimately, the whole heat and knotting thing (truly like 50% of the book) just doesn't do it for me, but the smut was smutting. The dual POV was really well deployed, Dr. Martin was a great villain, and Mack and Noah's circle of family and friends felt like real people rather than just devices for their love story. Light, fun, sexy, but I won't be revisiting the alpha/omega world any time soon.
