I liked some aspects of this book - our main character’s relationship with the boy she met in Roswell for example, the art style, and the lesson of embracing what makes you weird and unique.

Where I felt like this book fell flat was in how it portrayed our main character’s relationship with her parents. The main character’s parents are divorced and while we see throughout the book that her mom has had to step up and become more mature while her dad has regressed and is increasingly immature there is no resolution where our main character truly confronts her dad for this past her getting frustrated with him about his car breaking down. The lack of resolution and discussion of this further made the book’s conclusion feel incredibly flat to me.

There could have been an honest discussion about how people change through divorce and the difficulties in navigating change. Perhaps a discussion of the dad feeling hurt by the main character’s mom’s actions or  some acknowledgement of his lack of care in his relationship with his daughter. We didn’t get any of that it sort of just felt like our main character had to just accept her dad’s immature behavior and that feels like a weird message to send in this book.

This graphic novel was cute! I would have liked a bit more at the end. Maybe a longer/deeper resolution/conversation with her dad? Either way, I will definitely recommend to the kids at the Library.

There was something missing from this for me sadly—I didn’t connect with the characters really much at all.

This was pretty cute but my biggest hang up was how much these characters said 'like' in every single thing they said, multiple times. It may be realistic, sure, but I don't want to read it.

I loved her Mason Mooney books, so I was really excited to read this one! And I thought it was great! I love the take on believing in aliens and I think the idea was not only great, but really well executed. It’s about friendship and family and belief and the truth and accepting things for what they are.

Definitely enjoyed!

Loved the message behind this, especially as a girly who loves her cryptids and anything supernatural, people don’t always get it or they judge you, but this graphic novel was full of embracing your quirkier side and being true to yourself. And obviously I loved the alien content and learning more about Roswell and Area 51. As somebody who once went to a Bigfoot convention, hoping to meet Bigfoot, only for him to not show up and a baggy of Bigfoot dingleberries being analyzed, I get her frustration with not seeing physical proof of aliens. Even though, I think that makes believing even more magical. Someone please take me to Roswell. I need all the alien Knick knacks.
