I love thriller books and this was decent read but a bit of a predictable ending.

My experience with this book is most likely affected by it being an audiobook - a very well edited and narrated one with a full cast that made the plot come alive and the book become quite addictive. I don't believe I would have enjoyed it nearly as much if I'd read it "myself" - even when listening to the talentes narrators, I found myself rolling my eyes at times. these eye rolling moments weren't so much to do with the story itself as it was with the writing and language. With audiobooks I can usually ignore a lot that would annoy me when reading - clichés, repetitions, unnecessary explanations. So I don't even want to think of how annoying I would have found parts of this: There are only so many "shivers running down ones spines" and "fear turning to ice cold mist" (or something similar) and "knives of fear cutting my skin" (that's not sic,  the correct sentence, but it's pretty darn close and these types of sentences occur all over the place and really don't add anything of value, in my little, amature opinion).

Except from that, the writing style, the plot is well developed and kept me engaged. It's nothing groundbreaking, it's a pretty "as expected" plot within this fictional world of serial killers.

I do want to point out two positives: I appreciated that there weren't "crazy twists" thrown in all over the place as is so often the case. Also, it's not obviously predictable.

The podcast-part works well. again: nothing that hasn't been done before, and it doesn't stand out from similar books, but it works fine and opens up for a little side-theme and perspective on the whole concept of true crime dealing with murder cases - are we giving vile humans the attention they crave just to be entertained? Aren't we just kind of indulging ourselves in gossip while hiding our nosiness behind a fasade of "wanting to learn"?

The audiobook had sound effects and it was throwing me off too much. I will try again with the physical copy.
