3.5 rounded up. I never quite understand why thrillers these days constantly have people solving crimes within a week, without police interfering.

That being said, I enjoyed the mystery of who, what, when, and where. I feel like the mystery held up until the past was discovered for sure.

I really enjoyed this book!

It’s a different kind of thriller - rather than being the fast paced currently happening thriller, it’s a I don’t know what happened because I have memory loss kind of thriller. So it’s full of little details slowing being revealed to piece together what happened 20-odd years earlier.

I thought I knew what was happening when I started but as more and more details were revealed, I was second guessing myself.

I loved the difference in POVs - present day Lily, present day Alice and what actually happened in 1993. It didn’t seem like they were connected but it slowly became more obvious.

I love Lisa Jewell’s books anyway but I enjoyed this nonetheless.

This book was a page-turner. It had me on my toes. I tried to put my detective hat on while I was reading and my assumption about the outcome was partly correct. I actually liked the character development. It was hard for me to connect with Lily while reading; however, I think that was a natural feeling with her character as a whole. I liked the plot and the development. Overall, this was a great quick read. I recommend this for anyone who just wants something quick to read and is ready to try and solve a case.

4 stars, this book is literally just a warning to people to not trust strangers even if they are beautiful and rich
as it turns out mark is a psycho who killed kirsty as she was not honest about love and lied as she didn’t know what else to do, also yes it did make me mad that her parents just let her be with a 19 year old stranger even tho she is 15 and has no experience before with relationships and on a holiday where u don’t know anyone who lives there at the beach. also lily not knowing mark/carl was a psycho and just married him within a short amount of time? and alice just inviting a complete stranger to ur house and as her kids say he could be a killer? the only character who was quite sensible was gray/frank and his qualities of looking after his sister and protecting her but that just leads to the death of his dad after him trying to swim out to sea to get kirsty from mark trying to drown her out at sea.
this comes 2nd fav out of the 3 lisa jewel books i’ve read as it wasn’t that confusing compared to “the family upstairs”. the only thing why i didn’t like this more than “and then she was gone” was that this was predictable with
kirsty being in danger and mark being sketchy perv but i did think carl was gray but i was wrong which is good or else i would hate gray which i don’t just fuck mark!
