I enjoyed the story line but the sex scenes seemed to just drag on. I am by no means opposed to some sex in a good read but it felt like it was just going on and on, at some point you just want to say, yeah I get it, they have good chemistry! But They had so many other ways they were connected that it just seemed weird to drag out the sex for so many pages. Otherwise I thought the story was good and the characters were interwoven well to prove Blythe’s point about fate and destiny.
I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a tragic story with a happy ending.

I started reading this book after falling in love with Matt and Julie (and Celeste) in Flat-Out Love. I was so excited to read another book by Jessica Park because I really loved the way her writing flowed and it really captivated me. I always wanted to keep reading. However, I was sadly disappointed by Left Drowning.
About a girl named Blythe that meets a family that seems almost as dysfunctional as hers, and a boy (Chris) that will help her out of her depression. Although it had it’s moments, this book just didn’t do it for me. Don’t get me wrong, I love a bit of a saucy scene, but these seemed misplaced and didn’t flow with the story. I felt very disconnected from the story and it wasn’t able to hold my attention. I had a hard time getting through the story, to be honest. I’ve been finished with this book for hours and I can’t think of anything beyond disappointment.

If I could give this more stars I would, this book was just that good. I don't know what it is about Jessica Park's writing but this was a completely different style form her other writings. I was crying, when she was sad, cringing when she talked about what happened in the fire and I could feel how she felt in the shower. I was so emotionally drained after certain points but I couldn't stop.
Wow!
This book was great! I started it and didn't think I would like it...but once you are in you are stuck!!!

This was a thoroughly well written novel. I enjoyed it tremendously.
It is about the story of Blythe, who has been suffering depression for years. As with most cases of depression, Blythe has had very little social interaction and does the minimal amount of work to get by. One day, she is tempted out of her depressive funk by a boy she sees skipping rocks at the lake shore. This boy, Chris, helps her learn to help herself with the issues she has refused to deal with for years. As Blythe, slowly works to get back to her old, vivacious self, we meet a whole cast of characters that help her out along the way. This group involves Blythe and Chris' families, and altogether this quirky and fun group proves to be immensely entertaining to read about. As the story progresses, it turns into a tale that is not just about Blythe and Chris, but those around them, and how they join together to work through their issues.
I read this book in two because I could not put it down. I was enthralled by the characters and their stories. I loved the dialogue and the personalities that filled this novel. Jessica Park did a marvelous job of creating these characters and the conflicts around them. Everything flowed nicely and was appropriately complex. I did eventually predict the ultimate twist in the book, but it took a while. Once I knew what was coming, I still was interested though. By that point, I was invested in the story and had to see it through.
I doubt another book will be written, because Jessica Park already did an excellent job of rounding out pretty much everyone's story, but I would love for a novella epilogue just to see more of these characters!

I can't even think.
^This was last night. This morning I am feeling hung-over. I can think but the thoughts aren't exactly clear. Jessica Park is brilliant and that is where we shall start. Her quirkiness made the characters in this book so alive that I wanted them all to be my best friends. I wanted to be a part of this book and its wonderfully dynamic characters.
While predictable, I fell in love with this story. It was funny, heartwarming and heart-breakingly sad. I don't know how to explain the emotions that crippled me while reading this book. One second I was really sad and then I was all hot and bothered, and then, then I ugly-cried. Like oh my god what the hell is wrong with that girl, ugly-cried.
So thanks for that Ms. Park. Thanks a lot.
