I feel in love with all the characters. I definitely was rooting for all of them throughout the book. Lots of gratuitous sex scenes; I found myself skipping past most of it—we get it, he was good in bed. Solid read over all.
The beginning was good, but after a while i was losing my concentration. But halfway the book I was back in and couldn't put it down. I really love how the love between Blythe and Chris developted and how after Chris took care of Blythe it was her turn to keep care of him and help him through life. And how Blythe still keep faith in him after all the push away actions of Chris. How she keep stand up for their love and their 'family'.
I read this on the recommendation of Colleen Hoover and because I really enjoyed Flat Out Love. Unfortunately I was not as fond of Left Drowning. It was more explicit than necessary and I felt that there were gaping holes in the story. Realistic fiction should ring true but this story was too unbelievable for my liking.
Heart capturing
While the ending twist is predictable, the journey of getting there is surprising and heart warming. A true story of restoration and survival

Blythe is drowning the pain of losing her parents in a keg of beer. She just can't cope, even after 4 years. But twice in one day, she met two different men, brothers actually, that will change her view of the world and herself.
First, we meet Sabin, who steals her coffee and is hilarious about it. He's definitely going to be a lot of fun. Then we meet his brother Chris. Chris is intense, but he's so connected and easy-going, Blythe is instantly drawn to him. They share a connection that can't be put into words. She's finally found the friendship she's avoided at college, the feeling of family she hasn't gotten with her brother, and she finally belongs. Harper learns the Shepherd's are in need of healing as much as she is.
I adore Blythe. She's so much stronger than she realizes. She's down to earth, she's funny, and she would make a great best friend. I love Sabin and see so much potential in him. He's a great guy who needs to find a great girl. Chris is amazing despite his need to push people away. I've been there too, and it seems like the easier route to take in life. Chris and Blythe together? Wow, just wow! So-insanely-hot. I love the intricate, interconnecting lines that have traversed their lives.
Then there were the tears, of course, there were tears! I haven't read much of Park's but I've realized in the few books I have read, to stock up on tissues. She knows how to tug at the heartstrings and then heal the broken heart. Excellent writing, with fabulous characters. I'm so excited to continue on with this series.

★ or ★★. I really didn't like the H/h.
the combination of a pathetic girl chasing after a douchebag like he is the cat's meow made me wanna throw up.
Blythe McGuire is going through the motion of college, trying her best not to let her depression get the best of her. Blythe and her brother James lost their parents in a tragedy and the loss threw her in a tailspin.
Blythe's senior year she met Christopher Shepherd, a guy who seemed to understand and share her pain. Chris also lost his mother in a tragic accident and these two lonely hearts connected...or so Blythe thought.
See Chris told Blythe he doesn't do relationships, and Blythe thought she could handle the friends with benefits. But feelings emerged as they often do in these types of relationships. What will Blythe do when she knows Christopher isn't the "settling down" type?
My issue with this book was that Blythe was (besides being generally pathetic) emotionally all over the place. First of all, Blythe would tell Chris she wasn't looking for a boyfriend or a commitment, but in the next sentence, she would say that her and Chris are so connected. Blythe said she didn't believe in marriage, next breath Chris and my time will come. She was just so emotionally unstable. I felt like she couldn't tell lust from love.
Christopher was such a douchebag. He was a liar and a cheat, his reasons just were not good enough for his behavior.
Blythe's chasing after someone who was supposed to be a friend and treated her so callously, when she claimed she had grown stronger just perplexed me. He was just a user and bad guy to me. A lot of people had abusive parents but they don't treat people and lie by omission like he did. His behavior was appalling and disrespectful of a friendship.
I am so thankful I read Flat Out Love, Flat out Matt or I would have thought this author was a mediocre writer. Her characters in this book were not developed well and hard to like. I was truly disappointed with this one.

4.5 stars of PURE HEARTBREAKING FEEEEEEEEEELS
damn, this book is hard. There are so many raw emotions, completely different from the vibe I got from reading Flat-Out Love. It's darker, more intense, more gritty, and definitely more heartbreaking.
gah, Jessica Park can write about family like nobody's business. I fell in love instantly with the Shepherds, especially Sabin. God, I want Sabin to be my best friend, he's just too awesome.
I love how the two stories, Blythe's and the Shepherds', twist into one. I can't explain it, but it's so beautifully done. I love how Blythe and Chris save each other. That's beautiful too.
"Being with you let me feel, feel everything, and I needed that. I remembered better with you, I healed better with you, and you made...you made everything real."
Man, don't get me started on Blythe and Chris. These two idiots are on fire! STEAM STEAM STEAM. *fans self*
Overall, this is such a satisfying read. Is it weird if I say that this book makes me want to start running again? I need to drag my lazy fat arse to the gym, hopefully very soon.

I was so excited to listen to this as I loved Flat Out Love, I was so SO disappointed! !
Blythe McGuire is treading water, going through the motions of college and normal every day mundane things.
The depression of losing her parents in a tragic accident 4 years ago is still too much for her, but she is trying to force herself to live a "normal" life.
In her senior year she meets Chris Shepard and there she finds a "connection", she is able to come to terms with her parents death and share a mutual bond as he has also lost a parent.
Now up to this point the book had potential, however it just started to go downhill from there really. Blythe didn't want a relationship with Chris......then she did........then they had sex .......then they broke up........then she felt the connection........had sex........broke up blah blah blah.
All the way through she seemed to say one thing and then do the complete opposite, I didn't understand her reasoning!
Chris was at first a lovely boy/man who had his own daemons to face but ignorned them to help Blythe with hers, but then all of a sudden he was this 21 year old sex god with better moves than a pornstar.
Chris's siblings were lovely and they took Blythe under their wing and made her part of their family, but at the same time, I felt like she strung Sabin along, as reading between the lines, I think that he was in love with her ( although it was never mentioned) and she leaned too heavily on him.
The whole family was f'd up and needed some serious therapy which again is never mentioned.
A disappointing 2•5☆

It was..... fine.
The beginning and start of the middle was absolutely fantastic. It was engaging and funny and I couldn’t put it down. But as the story progressed, I felt like it was dragged out and I wanted it to be done and over with already. It was a rollercoaster of emotions that went on far too long. The ending was happy though.

I'm not sure that I can come up with the words to accurately describe the emotional journey this novel took me on. I would read anything by Jessica park. the woman has a way with word and humor. but also pain. she makes the reader feel deeply. and she really knows how to make you say what the fuck? these charachters were so amazing and I'll keep them in my heart forever.
