While I admit that this book is somewhat of a page turner, it's just... weird. The character names are weird, the plot's weird, and it's just written weirdly. The characters do things or make decisions that come out of nowhere. The inner anguish that each character goes through is repeatedly brought up so much that it doesn't give much depth to anything at all.

I finished this book in one day. It was excellent. The characters were interesting and I could not put the book down, although it was hard to read at times.

Love, love, love! A 6 Star read!

Such an emotional and sweet story. I was in tears from the moment I read the dedication. But there were also gloriously fun & funny moments throughout. An emotional tug-of-war really.
The story-line is fresh and even though I knew what was going to happen, I was completely enthralled by the way Jessica Park tells the story. She is such an amazingly talented writer - she puts things together in very unexpected ways (enjoyably, unexpected ways).
There was a lot more sex in this book than I was expecting - not that I have a problem with that :) it ws just a surprise.
The Shepherd sibblings are awesome - I fell in love with the whole family, but I am a huge Sabin fan! I would love to have a story from his POV.

There are so many things to say about this book - but to truly feel it, you just have to read it.

Love, love, love!

Wow. Just Wow. Reading this book was an experience. I thought Flat Out Love was an amazing book and was thrilled to see Park getting rave reviews for this new release. But, this book was on another level. Park does deep and meaningful hurt/healing and works the process like no other, but what she doesn't do is cheesy, not at all. Her characters are completely unique and reading this book is a journey.

I wish I had more words to describe this book and how amazing it is, but I don't. I'm still sort of stunned by it.

This was incredible. It was hard given my past experiences, which are somewhat similar to the characters', but I will definitely be reading it again.

Yeah, this is a romance and yeah, it's erotic but it's also a compelling story about loss, redemption, forgiveness, and the healing power of friendship. And while there is tragedy, it's not depressing. In fact, there were moments that I found myself laughing out loud. The characters are so fully fleshed out that I completely fell in love with the Shepherd clan. How could you not love Sabin & Estelle? The love story between Blythe & Christopher is truly moving. The book came to a satisfying conclusion but I was sad to let the story and the characters go.

There was always a comfort I felt when i first started reading New Adult and in recent times it is pretty obvious to anyone who has read my blog that I have come to dislike the receptiveness from the genre. That is until I read Left Drowning by Jessica Park.

I instantly had a connection with Left Drowning, we open our story up to Blythe McGuire a girl who had been struggling with depression for 4 years after her parents died in a fire when they were on vacation. With a sour relationship with her brother Blythe really has no one to turn to other than alcohol.

Realising this is not the life she wants to live Blythe meets a group of people, 3 brothers and a sister to be exact. The Shepherd siblings have an extremely close bond, growing up without a mother Christopher the oldest of the group has taken on a parent role. For this group of people feeling and grieving is not something any of them have allowed themselves to go through and in the end it is each other that keeps each one of themselves breathing.

Park wrote a beautiful story, I had the sole intention of dropping New Adult from my reading list as I felt too invaded by stories that focuses more on the sex side of things than the actual story. Park has turned this around for me completely, the story focuses primarily on Blythe McGuire a girl who has been evading the events of her parents death almost four years ago and secondary the Shepherd siblings who grew up with an abusive father.

I loved how this story developed. We were able to witness the growth of Blyth's emotional turmoil as she overcame the natural obstacles of life which was something she was not able to balance. We watch her fall in love and feel heartbreak. Even though there was a "romance" and we had explicit sexual encounters I was not overwhelmed, they were the perfect dose. This is something a lot of books I have been reading lately have not been able to balance. I was able to concentrate on the story and the issues that were arising for each individual without the thought when do they get their kit off next?

There was such a strong connection through the characters, I could tell straight away the bond would be strong between everyone. There were trials and errors that each of the characters had to face and everyone's emotions were brought across so well, some thrust to us quite erratically and some were subtle and for once the story wasn't just about one persons issue but everyones.

The pacing of the story was what threw me off a little. At first were brought into a welcoming rhythm then all of a sudden we jump 3 weeks, then 2 months, then a year. I felt these jumps were a little off putting and were overwhelming at times and I tried to get back into the balance of what was going on.

I'd definitely recommend Left Drowning to anyone who has been like me and felt like they were lost while reading NA Fiction. I'm so glad I picked this book up, sometimes judging a book by it's cover can go a long way.

COVER ART

This is one of my favourite New Adult covers, for once we're not bombarded with "hot" men intimately embracing small girls, no this cover for me does what the story does focuses on the plot and not the sex. Extremely beautiful.

Great emotional read. It was a little slow to begin with for me but once I got in to it I couldn't put it down. There a few tears shed around 64% as well as a NO this can't be happening moment but I was happy with the was it rounded out and ended.

I would give this 3.5 stars. It took me longer than I thought it would to read, between its length and my busy schedule but I enjoyed it. A little predictable at times but overall a good story with great characters. I thought the author was creative in her ending, giving updates as each of them ran with Blythe.

Just want to add: I wish I could run 6 miles and not know it, lucky duck that Blythe ;)
