I waited so long to finally read this! It was worth the wait. I am obsessed with Vikings and Norse mythology. Thank you, pandemic. If you watched and loved Vikings and Vikings Valhalla or The Last Kingdom you will enjoy this duology. Man… trust no one.
This is another slow burn but the end makes it worthwhile.

ok lots of thoughts… me in my review of the previous book talking about how i guessed the ending and nothing surprised me bc im a genius… i can NOT say the same for this book. DAMN. that was crazy.. me being proud to have guessed that the mom was alive the whole time only to find out that that is just not true at all… this was a sick and disturbed plot twist and honestly i loved it. its been a while since i havent guessed something that big. that alone gave this book 4 stars because unfortunately i had some issues with the rest of the book, specifically the romance. remember when i said i hope that bjorn and freyas angst didnt annoy me this book. well it did. a lot. firstly there was kind of no groveling on bjorns part??? homie lied to the love of his life for the entirety of their knowing each other and then barely apologized? and like… i understand that he had little choice which is why i dont really fault him.. but then freya comes to the same conclusion but is like well even though i cant blame him for this actually yes i can. it was very back and forth? she was like i understood why he did what he did but i cant forgive him because… idk… and then when she does “forgive him” he’s like well no because i havent earned your forgiveness yet. and im like yes finally here comes the grovelling ive been waiting for throughout the whole book! and then he proceeds to do literally nothing of the sort. like why did you even say that then??? then when they got stuck on that island they made up like almost instantly, not because they actually talked about what happened, but because of the shock of haralds revelation. like it was insane! i will give them that! but the whole reason feyra was upset with him kind of just disappeared??? it didnt feel like a deserved reunion. despite the frustrating romance the last 20% had me at the edge of my seat, i fully could not put the book down. easily my favorite part of the duology, it was so fast paced and so so so good. its been a while since i stayed up late to finish a book and that last quarter of the book was fantastic. this duology was exactly what i needed!

I think I dug my own grave with this book, I didn’t really enjoy the first book but I was still intrigued enough to read this book but did so without looking up what I forgot from book 1. So, it was a bit of a confusing ride, and I’m not really sure if I enjoyed this books that much either? But I think I’m learning that I don’t particularly like the trope of there being a prophecy about an all opposing doom from the fmc who already is the most powerful in the realm. Or maybe it was just the writing, who knows at this point lol.

Enjoyed the duology overall, but felt the
Harald/Snorri/Child of Lok
