The second half of the book really makes up for the first half and the first book.
This series was a really frustrating read for me. It wasn’t until after the twist that I started the like it again and then the end got a little chaotic again but in a normal highs and lows sort of way.
It was definitely good but I don’t know if I like it lol

[4/5⭐️]
Finished my very first Viking series with gods & magic and I will say it did not disappoint. The first book the tension and the plot was just perfect to make me want to read book #2. However book two was a little repetitive at one point with Freya and Bijiorn since they went from enemies to lovers to lovers to enemies. Lots of shocking discoveries and the plot delivered in book two also.

I confess the first hundred and fifty pages almost lost me. Very little actually happened other than bickering and posturing, and considering I found all the characters in the last book vibrant and exciting, I was losing interest fast. Then two plot twists that literally turned the entire story upside down righted things, and the story propelled forward, giving Freya and Bjorn the depth they deserved. I like Danielle Jensen's stories and worlds, but this does seem to happen with her second books and characters. I'll sacrifice the plot for character development any day, but not the character for the plot. Overall, a good read.
