The poverty and trauma that Viola Davis came from is absolutely ASTOUNDING. Her memoir dug deep and laid bare so much of her life, and gave voice to those who haven’t often had one.
I was also interested in her description of the actor’s profession (namely that of a dark-skinned woman of color)—the struggles, bleak realities of making acting a career, and the miraculous moments of triumph that only come to a few.
