Sarah's Choice

Pegg Thomas

4.45 AVERAGE

This was the first novel I have read from Pegg Thomas and it definitely won't be the last. For me historical romances are always hit or miss but this was one I would definitely recommend to others. Pegg was able to weave in the history with Sarah's story flawlessly and I enjoyed every minute.

This is a novel that definitely has darker undertones dealing with war between colonists and Indians. There are descriptions of killings, rape, sickness and death (though not too descriptive you can definitely imagine what is happening). I loved Sarah's journey to find peace, hope and love again. I love Cully's faith and steadfastness through it all.

Overall I would definitely read again and I'm excited to continue with the series.

Only a few sweet kisses and zero swearing.

What a story! I didn't breathe much until the last couple pages. Rich in history. I'm so thankful I didn't live then. I don't believe I would have been the strong courageous woman Sarah Feight was. Especially with the horrific events she endured. Great story! Totally deserved the Selah award it received.

Oh wow. I’ll be thinking on this one for a while.

This story deals with some heavy subjects. Women that have experienced trauma may want to be aware before reading.

That said, there is beauty - grace - healing woven throughout these pages.

I’m grateful to have read Sarah and Cully’s journey.

Definitely some swoon worthy moments too! ;)

“Listen to me. Hatred will rot you from the inside out if you let it. It can destroy you without doing a lick of harm to the one you hate.” ~ Martha

This book should have been called Sarah’s Choice”s”. She doesn’t have just one difficult choice to make over the course of this tale, she is confronted with many. Sarah must choose to live, to trust, to forgive, and ultimately to love. The things she experiences are soul shattering, not many women would recover emotionally.

When Sarah narrowly escapes an Indian attack on her family’s home and finds she is the sole survivor, the temptation to lay down her life and succumb to the dark numbness are almost to great. But when Leith McCully shows up, he urges her see that her husband’s sacrifice should not be in vain. Sarah returns to Fort Pitt with Leith and there they find themselves embroiled in the famous siege.

This story is filled with historical facts taken from Captain William Trent’s journal who was present during the siege. Pegg does a wonderful job of taking those facts and weaving in a beautiful fictional story of survival and love. This book was very moving, filled to the brim with everything you want in a historical fiction: perseverance, fortitude, determination, and of course some romance.
