Karl Pilkington is one of a kind. He is both an idiot and a genius.

He's an "idiot" in the same way an innocent child is an idiot: he lacks some 'book smarts' and occasionally makes uninformed statements which could, conceivably, cause offense to those who are overly sensitive. BUT it's all very endearing because he's so genuine and well-intentioned. His idiocy is a product of him being a simple guy and wanting to stay in his comfort zone.

He's a genius because of his one-of-a-kind perspective on life. He has these absurd suggestions for how things should be, or why they came to be the way they are. Plus, he has endless wonder and curiosity (which makes it puzzling that he still tries to stay in his comfort zone).

I used to think Karl was at his best when he was getting prodded by his friends Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Now I'm less convinced of that because Karl's books have been entertaining and thoughtful. They are travel diaries from a unique mind.

Come on, let's be real - you don't expect this to be a masterpiece, right?

If I were to recommend this book to someone, I'd choose every person I see on the Facebook group dedicated to the Ricky Gervais Show. In case you were unaware, the show has garnered a cult, and yes, I'm part of it.

To sum it up *very* briefly, I'd say this: are you also annoyed every time Steve interrupts Karl during the show? Well, he is free to talk about everything and anything in the book, and it's as funny as you'd expect.

I've always found Karl Pilkington many times funnier than even my favourite comedians. As I write this, I'm working my way through his old Xfm shows and podcasts co-starring Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant - a journey I've been on more times than I'd like to admit. Karlology has been sitting on my bookshelf for about five years, and I finally committed to reading it last week. While it may seem that Karl's biggest fans would enjoy his books more than the general audience, I don't think this is the case with this one. Many of the anecdotes and observations included in this book were immediately familiar - they in fact formed the substance of many of Karl's funniest moments on the radio shows and podcasts. I'd have probably enjoyed Karlology more if I read it when I was learning about Karl Pilkington for the first time.

What a book! I haven't read anything that made laugh this much. My sides ache from all the laughing I did. I generally don't recommend books, but I would recommend this
