Summary:
Following the death of a friend, Delvin decides that he wants to follow in his friend’s footsteps and become a magician. So he set off with his friend, Greg, and Borlock’s possessions to start fresh in Hengel. After a few magic tricks, something started to happen and Delvin was soon wondering if magic was real. This eventually led him to a big adventure with a cunning and strong willed princess. Is magic real? And what are they searching for?
Positive:
I liked how good the storyline was and how the author stuck to the idea he had. The twists and turns made me want to continue reading to find out what happens next.
Negative:
I didn’t like the lack of connection with the character. I didn’t feel a connection with any of the characters in the book and I barely cared if anything happened to them.
I also disliked the writing style because it felt like tragedies just kept happening to the characters even after something bad just happened to them. I do not have anything against the author, Charles Townsend, and will try to read another of his books.
Rating:
I gave The Magician’s Secret a 2 out of 5 stars. The reason I didn’t give the book a 1 is because I personally wasn’t a big fan of the book but it wasn’t so bad and I can see how other people might like the book. I also didn’t give it a 3 because the writing style put me off the book and I almost didn’t want to finish it.
Recommend audience:
I think The Magician’s Secret is best for young adults and people that love fast reads. This book reads easily and fast and will pull a young adult’s and maybe teenager’s attention.
I received a free copy of this book thanks to OnlineBookClub.org and the author.
