Fast read, and easy pace. The beginning of an awesome series.

Fast paced, well written characters (for the most part). Found it odd that a book billed as “d.d. Warren #1” barely even mentioned that character and she didn’t have any pov chapters. Seems odd. Overall I was pleased with the twists and turns. Will pick up book #2 in the series.

I have been on a bit of a Lisa Gardner kick - but this one felt like a big miss for me. I feel like if the narrator of this story was different I would have enjoyed it more. The voice just wasn’t enjoyable to listen to, so much so that I was 20% into the book and had to restart because I kept zoning out. I think Lisa Gardner books are usually very captivating and I enjoy her writing and her twists, the narrator was just too big of a hurdle for me on this one.

If you treat this book as pure soap opera, you might be able to get through it.

Otherwise, it was just silly!

Even though Bobby is being sued, he still goes to chat with the people suing him, without a lawyer or third party present!

At one stage Bobby says he's never met Catherine before, but then later conveniently remembers that they once did have a conversation, and it was about sniper tactics in a hostage situation! I mean, come on! Really?!?

Lisa Gardner gives false names to the Judge and pedophile, even though we already know who they are! What was the purpose of this?

How exactly can any reasonably-minded person believe that someone could "set up" a hostage situation? Unless you actually put the gun in their hand, it's an utterly absurd notion!

By the end, I was expecting a secret twin to pop up and for somebody to return from the dead!

A rare clunker from Lisa Gardner.

Recommended by a friend. I thought this was very well done for it's genre. A nice quick thriller. Complex enough to be interesting, but not overdone. It gets pretty dark in some places, but those were some of the more interesting bits.

This is the first Lisa Gardner book I've read and I find I rather like her. I was intrigued throughout this book, never sure who I could trust or what was true. Many twists and turns and second guessing.

I had 2 gripes - one, for a book in the 'D.D. Warren series' D.D. sure plays a very small part of this, and none of it is from her perspective. Frankly, she's an incompetent idiot and a terrible detective in the 4 scenes she appeared in throughout this book. And two, there were a few too many loose ends at the end of this book (apparently it kind of ties in to the next book, so I guess it makes sense) but its frustrating to still have that many questions at the end.
