This book was amazing! I was captivated by the first in the "Wondrous Strange" series and it has happened again for this second installment. All the elements were there: romance, adventure, magic, otherworldly creatures. I couldn't get enough of this book. Lesley Livingston weaves a truly enchanting story filled with twists & plots that make you want to turn the page to see what happens next. I'm really looking forward to finishing the series.

Faerie can't lie.. And that's really sad when you wouldn't want to hear what they have to say..
The truth really hurts most of the time and there are those who manipulate it, whether for the better or for the worst. It's sad to think about the things we are willing to risk for the people we love. This story is full of intense, mysterious, surprising and unexpected events. Having a fresh and unprecedented storyline that makes you ask for more. So full of revelations that took me aback and that still puzzles my mind until now. My fascination for faerie stories started with Wondrous Strange and with Darklight, it makes me love faerie stories even more.
Kelley and Sonny though.. =(

Darklight picks up a few weeks/months after the events of Wondrous Strange. It’s difficult to say much about Darklight without giving away some of the reveals in Wondrous Strange so consider yourself warned!
I felt like this book took just a bit for the pace to pick up. The characters were continuing with their lives and adjusting to the changes and things just plodded along for a little while. But once things picked up (about 1/3 through?), they really got going. I read somewhere that this series was originally slated to be 2 volumes and I think you can feel it a little bit in the slow pace here. But I don’t feel like anything unnecessary was really added, either. Everything had a point and went into the story’s development so the additional pages weren’t a waste.
Again, I felt like the prologue in this volume gave away plot. Well, not so much gave away as tipped the reader off to the next big reveal. I spent my reading hyper-aware of any hint or reference that tied back to the prologue. So events that would have surprised me lost that element since I was already on the lookout. But at the same time, those revelations would probably have seemed to come out of left field if it weren’t for the prologue…
Kelley stars in another play – Romeo and Juliet – but this time the correlation with the plot wasn’t nearly as obvious to me and felt a bit forced. But I still enjoyed the inclusion of the play and how the play tended to relate to Kelley’s life. Kelley was a bit more of a teenager in this book but I still felt her actions and attitude fit and weren’t obnoxious. The revelations kept coming in this volume. Some predictable, some not, and many tying back to the first volume neatly. The humor wasn’t as obvious but still present occasionally.
There was the introduction of the obligatory love rival – only not so much. And that’s what kept the book from heading into overdone territory. Fennrys Wolf is an interesting and somewhat mysterious character, briefly introduced in the first volume and explored a bit more in this book. But rather than a love rival, his character helps flesh out this world a bit more since up until now it’s been mostly Kelley and Sonny’s perspective. We never see things from his point of view but his presence causes ripples that prevent the focus being nothing but Kelley/Sonny sappy romance.
I’d like to insert here that my love of Kelley’s co-actor Gentleman Jack knows no bounds. I’d really enjoy a book where he played a much larger role than he gets here. Oh – and the last third of this book is as tense and action packed as the climax of Wondrous Strange. Unlike the first volume, this book ends on a cliffhanger and you will do yourself a favor if you have the third and final volume ready at hand.

Teil 2 von 3 (Wondrous Strange Trilogie)
Irgendwie bin ich enttäuscht und irgendwie auch wieder nicht. Im Vergleich zum Vorgänger war Darklight genau das – ein ziemlich dunkles Licht. Aber es fällt mir unheimlich schwer genau zu sagen warum. Ich befürchte fast, dass ich einfach nicht in der richtigen Stimmung war und dem Hörbuch oft nur halbherzig gelauscht habe. Also dürft ihr die niedrige Bewertung gern auf meine fehlende Konzentration schieben.

Kelley spielt wieder Theater, diesmal Romeo und Julia. Sie vermisst Sonny und führt mit ihrer Mutter, Königin Mabh unerfreuliche Gespräche durch ihren Schlafzimmerspiegel. Währenddessen ist Sonny in einem anderen Reich unterwegs und versucht alle Reiter der Wild Hunt zu erlegen. Die Blutmagie der Morde macht ihm zu schaffen, aber der Gedanke an Kelley stärkt ihn. Ein paar Turbulenzen später liegen Kelley und Sonny sich plötzlich wieder in den Armen, aber der Frieden hält nicht lange, denn es tauchen schnell neue Feinde und Rätsel auf.
Charaktere & Beziehungen
Wie schon in Teil eins habe ich an den Charakteren beinahe gar nichts auszusetzen. Sie sind alle sehr unterschiedlich, farbenfroh und interessant. Ich mag Kelley als Heldin nach wie vor sehr gern und über Tyff und ihre schlagfertigen Kommentare habe ich mich auch wieder amüsiert. Es war schön mehr über Fenrys zu lernen. Die zunehmende Szenenpräsenz hat ihn auf jeden Fall zu einem plastischeren Charakter gemacht. Richtig gut hat mir auch die erste Begegnung mit Titania gefallen. Lesley Livingston hat die Königin des Sommer-Hofs wunderbar beschrieben und zu kraftvollem Leben erweckt.
Einzig Sonny konnte mich immer noch nicht so recht von sich überzeugen. Ich kann einfach nicht das an ihm finden, was Kelley anscheinend in ihm sieht. Außerdem hat mich seine Eifersucht extrem genervt.
Handlung
Ich glaube die Handlung ist das, was mir in diesem Roman am meisten missfallen hat. Dabei war sie gar nicht so schlecht, sehr abenteuerreich und rasant. Aber irgendwie hat es mich nicht mitgerissen. Die Ereignisse sind halt so vor sich hingeplätschert und waren mir den Großteil der Zeit ziemlich egal. Die Momente mit Fenrys und Tyff waren zwar unterhaltsam, weil die Charaktere sehr erheiternde Züge mit sich bringen, aber viel zu selten.
Was mich am meisten genervt hat, war dass Sonny jetzt auch noch so eine geheime Vergangenheitsgeschichte hat. Wozu das denn? Reicht doch wenn Kelley die hat oder? Außerdem fand ich sie überhaupt nicht schlüssig. Sie klang so sehr an den Haaren herbeigezogen, dass ich sie jetzt nicht mal hier wiedergeben kann (weil ich mir nicht sicher bin, ob ich alles richtig verstanden habe und weil mein Gedächtnis einer Nussschale ähnelt).
Dann wäre da noch das Ende. Ich muss zugeben, Kelleys Entscheidung war sehr tragisch und in dem Moment hab ich auch mit allen mitgelitten, aber die Beweggründe für ihre Reaktion waren einfach nur bescheuert. Klar soll das Spannung und Dramatik für den nächsten Teil aufbauen, aber mit ein bisschen KOMMUNIKATION und Nachdenken hätte es auch andere Wege gegeben.
Ich möchte hier noch mal betonen, dass ich eventuell einfach nicht sonderlich konzentriert dem Hörbuch gelauscht habe. Wer die Story total logisch und nachvollziehbar fand, kann mich gern eines besseren belehren und mir noch mal genau erklären, wieso das wie gelaufen ist.
Atmosphäre & Kulisse
Beides war super. Sowohl die Beschreibungen der Feenwelt als auch die des heimeligen Theaters haben in meinem Kopf eine tolle Kulisse aufgebaut und mir das Gefühl gegeben wirklich da zu sein.
Sprache/Stil
Auch hier kann ich die Autorin nur loben. Dafür dass es gerade mal ihr zweites Buch ist, hat sie bereits einen tollen Schreibstil entwickelt, ohne Ecken und Kanten, dafür mit einer Prise Originalität und einem Sinn für realistische, beeindruckende Beschreibungen.
Zusammenhang
Darklight ist die direkte Fortsetzung von Wondrous Strange. Ich glaube, wenn ich mich besser konzentriert hätte, würde ich den Roman für einen guten, aber keinen grandiosen Mittelteil halten. Da ich mich aber schlecht konzentriert habe, bleibt Darklight für mich rein storytechnisch nur mittelmäßig. Er hält allerdings das hohe Niveau, was Schreibstil und Charaktere angeht.
Wer mit den Charakteren mitfiebert, wird am Ende definitiv um mehr betteln, denn das Buch geht zwar nicht direkt mit einem Cliffhanger, dafür aber sehr tragisch aus. Fazit
Darklight ist eine nette Fortsetzung, die in Sachen Schreibstil und Charakteren mit seinem Vorgänger mithalten kann. Die Handlung ist zwar actionreich, wirkte auf mich aber oft aneinandergeklatscht und vor allem die Wendung am Ende fand ich unnötig und nicht allzu nachvollziehbar. Ich werde Teil 3 trotzdem lesen, weil ich viele der Charaktere und vor allem den Schreibstil extrem mag.

Optische Gestaltung
Das Darklight-Cover gefällt mir vom Foto her viel besser als das von Wondrous Strange. Das Model ist sehr hübsch und sieht genauso aus wie ich mir Kelley vorstelle (wobei ich mir Kelley sicherlich aufgrund der Cover so vorstelle). Farblich passt es gut zum Inhalt, es ist weniger düster als Band 1 und erinnert mehr an Natur und Wald.
Das Hörbuch wird übrigens wieder ganz fantastisch von der Autorin selbst gelesen. Sehr hörenswert!

What happened??? The first book captured my attention enough for me to want to finish the series, after this? Now I just want to finish to see what becomes of Sonny's and Kelley's relationship. But mostly just because of Sonny.
This had so much potential at first, and then it really didn't. Because of the way she chose to write it-nothing wrong with it, saying that now- has limited what Livingston could do with this series.
I give it props for being a CLEAN romance when so many YA books are not. However, the beginning of the 'love triangle' really is wasted effort. It shouldn't be there, it's a waste of words that could've been used for better characters.
It's an interesting read of course, if you still want to care about it. I give two stars because of all the lost potential and because the 'love triangle' really ruined it for me, reading spoilers for the next book it seems as if it's barely begun. Whoop-ie.

OK, so I rated this a little bit higher than the first book, which is kind of surprising. Second books in trilogies generally are just frustrating by their very nature. And this one really ends with a ton of questions. But I found myself impressed by the mystery, with wondering who is behind the action of the book, and I found myself impressed with some of the vocabulary and the great use of Shakespeare. Livingston knows her stuff and does some neat things with it.

UGH!!! You'll want to throw this book at the wall(please dont) when you finish it!! Everything you don't expect to happen happens, and all the things you want to happen don't!!!
Not to say this was a bad book, it was just the opposite: absolute excellence. Not only was it exquisite with its imagery and details, this storyline is endearing as well as dangerous, introducing new definitions to fantastic creatures we thought we knew so well. The deep, passionate romance between Sonny and Kelly is pulled and stretched by everyone around them, incuding themselves. (Sometimes i wished I was in the story so i could punch one of them to knock some sense into their heads). Again, Kelly and Sonny are each other's salvation from evil, and that ultimately causes them to do drastic things.
The dire conflicts are not resolved in this book, the ending a cliffhanger so abrupt, so sudden that your feet will be snatched out from under you. Get ready for a magical ride through a challenging, bloody, secrative world. The third book will will hopefully end this fantastic trilogy with all of your questions answered!!

I don't know why I am sucked into these books. I read this in one sitting and couldn't put it down. Obviously.;) Can't wait for the third book!

Meh. 2.5 stars for this one, I think. I'm not going to write a full review for this one, so let me just sum up my thoughts.
Don't you hate it when the sequel doesn't live up to its predecessor? Sigh.
And I don't like that Kelley just willingly goes along with whatever Fennrys says, and sort of willfully trusts him, even though there are definitely things that are Not Okay. This isn't exactly a love triangle, but it's not NOT a love triangle either, and I'm just not digging it.
I loved the first book - LOVED it - but not this one. This one I'm not even sure I liked overall, and the addition of that trope at the end just confirmed it. I'm still going to read the last one, because I need to know how things end up, but. Going to temper my expectations a bit before I do so.

I hate that they pulled the whole "I'm going to make a decision for you - I'm going to LIE to you - because I love you and want to keep you safe" thing. Like Sonny doesn't matter. Like what he WANTS doesn't matter. Like he can't be trusted to make his own choices, like he doesn't deserve to know the truth. While I liked Kelley for the most part, the way she treated Sonny in this book just made me really angry.And I don't like that Kelley just willingly goes along with whatever Fennrys says, and sort of willfully trusts him, even though there are definitely things that are Not Okay.
