AAAAA this book was adorable!!! I am really happy that it focused on the relationship between Nathaniel and Elizabeth more, since I did feel like it was a bit lacking in the main book. Nathaniel and Elizabeth are so cute <33333 It was such a sweet slice of life type episode, where the residents of Thorn manor are trapped within the manor and they must figure out why and how to escape in time for the Winter Ball. Silas is everything in this book and I love Mercy. I wish I got to see more of Mercy, Katrien, and Perceval so I am hoping there will be a 2nd book.

I sincerely hope for more with this series since the ending could easily be a tie off or a place to pick up. Silas still has a lot of backstory I desperately need to hear more about!! Please read this if you read Sorcery of Thorns, you will not regret it!!!

Honestly it’s been a while since I read Sorcery of Thorns and I forgot a lot of the plot which made this a little confusing but it was fun anyway; a short and sweet addition,  though I’m not sure it was necessary
I did love seeing more of Silas though he’s great

This was super cute and fun! I really loved the world of Sorcery of Thorns, so it was nice to return. It was great to learn more about the Thorn ancestors and see what Elisabeth is up to now. The plot was entertaining, if a touch cheesy, and I liked that a main focus was developing Elisabeth and Nathaniel's relationship more.
Not super thrilled about the engagement at the end, but that's mostly a personal thing for me.
I did like the epilogue with Silas at the end though. It was completely in character for him and in hindsight, I should have suspected.

 book blurb:
Elisabeth and Nathaniel are finally settling into a peaceful life together, but the ancestors of Thorn Manor have other ideas. Silas is not pleased.

my thoughts:

I loved this novella for Sorcery of Thorns; it was a great experience to be back at Thorn Manor with Nathaniel, Elisabeth, and Silas. Mercy as well, though she's a minor character.
If you're missing the world of badass librarians, fashionable demon servants, stubborn rivals, and magic, this novella will certainly take you sweeping back into it all once again.

The length makes it so that it doesn’t really have time to develop a complex plot. It is enjoyable nonetheless, I hope a sequel will soon be announced.

I was admittedly a little disappointed by the novella, but not so much as to ruin my experience.

As always I adored Silas, he was a delight and most of my notes are about him being great. There’s just something about him that’s wildly endearing and makes him a blast to read about.

I also thought the general concept of a house harassing the main ship to get together properly funny. It was fun to watch it play out and the characters realise what was going on.

I also really enjoyed the sections where Elisabeth got to work with the grimoires. Showing off her skill and the detail and methods in maintaining, caring for, and restoring them genuinely interested me. I wish we had gotten more of it in A Sorcery of Thorns.

However I did find the plot structure and beats lacking. Everything just felt very loose and barely strung together. It just didn’t have the flow I’m used to from the first book.

The romance also felt like it advanced far too quickly, especially from where we left off in a Sorcery of Thorns. I think it would have benefited from more time between the end of book one and the start of the novella or not pushing for as much advancement in the relationship as we saw.

Overall it was a fine read and I enjoyed myself, I just had a few issues here and there that brought it down for me.

This was a fun novella to read. I loved getting to see a bit more about these characters especially as Sorcery of Thorns was left somewhat open ended.
I had a lot of fun reading this I think I could happily read more novellas about these characters getting up to more things like battling their own house to be able to get outside the front door. Or even a whole other full length novel if Margaret Rogerson ever decides she wants to write more in this world. I hope she does because I feel like there's still loads left that could be explored.

Margaret Rogerson’s “Mysteries of Thorn Manor” novella doesn’t quite fill the hole in my heart left by “Sorcery of Thorns,” but it comes pretty darn close.

She could write a car repair manual and it would be my next favorite read.
