One of the BBC’s ‘100 Novels That Shaped Our World’

200 years after it was first published, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein has stood the test of time as a gothic masterpiece—a classic work of humanity and horror that blurs the line between man and monster…

The story of Victor Frankenstein who, obsessed with creating life itself, plunders graveyards for the material to fashion a new being, but whose botched creature sets out to destroy his maker, would become the world’s most famous work of horror fiction, and remains a devastating exploration of the limits of human creativity. A novel of hallucinatory intensity, Frankenstein represents one of the most striking flowerings of the Romantic imagination.

No se como está calificada de obra de terror. La verdad me resultó una historia dramática, por momentos desgarradora. Además, me parece que da para varias capas de análisis. Para releer y para quedarse pensando.

Well written but not the story I was expecting so didn't grip me the way I thought it would. The process of creation of the monster is like only a page

This was my first time reading this classic, and I can see why it has made such an impression on the popular imagination and culture. It is thrilling in its premise and I did appreciate how Shelley was influenced by Gothic & Romantic elements in her portrayal of horror and nature (human and otherwise).

I also thought her actual writing style was pretty fluid, but the novel isn’t as sophisticated when it comes to plotting and narrative technique and I wish we had gotten more “action” even as I found the internal conflicts intriguing.
