This was a solid four star book for me
I didn’t love the premise as the descriptions were pretty gross and I don’t love reading about pandemics in the middle of 2 lol but overall I enjoyed this
It was super fast paced especially once you got a quarter or halfway through and I got more invested than I expected to
I’m immediately going to start These Violent Ends but idk if I’m going to read the next ones that come out (and definitely not going to buy them like I did with the duology) as I’m not obsessed and also I don’t love some of the stuff Chloe Gong has done (especially when it came to blurbing and supporting problematic books and then not making any kind of statement or anything about it to apologize in any way

I cannot gush enough about how much I love the writing—it's simply gorgeous. It took a little bit of time to fall in love with the world and its characters, but when I did, I was hooked on them. They are all falling apart at the seams, ready to break when the city does, but I cannot help but be in awe at what a spectacle it would be when they do. There are some aspects of this book that bother me.
For example, Marshall's "death"—I adore him, but I feel like he should've actually died. I also find the whole thing with Dexter Walter being the Larkspur a little abrupt.
But, despite that, I enjoyed it very, very much.

10/04/2022: Oh, the right timing do wonders. I devoured it, despite the slow pace.

Oh, and THIS IS HOW YOU WRITE ENEMIES TO LOVERS, TAKE NOTES PEOPLE. And stop fucking recommending RW&RB, that's an offense to the whole trope

Also, I love Benedikt for no reason but his existential crisis, bye

15/09/2021: It's not you baby, it's me being on the edge of reading slump for more than a month and your slow pacing. And all the hype around you...

This was super confusing for me to read. Because I don’t like horror, politics, THAT level of gore, and apparently bugs in my books. BUT the storytelling was incredible, the romance was subtle but so well crafted, I liked the sister aspect that helped push the story along, I liked the friends aspects of Kathleen and Rosalind and the dynamic between those two sisters, I like Marshall and Benedict and the thing that happened with Marshall at the end and that fucking plot twist my dude?! How can you do that on the very last page!!!! Wild!!! So good. I was certain I wasn’t gonna read book two because of the first few things I mentioned but the story and the characters and the plot twists were just too good. I can’t not read book two. So here I go!!
