Pale Horses can easily be labeled as a “crime novel” but it’s so much more than simply that. Three very different characters struggle with their own unique mental disorders: A sheriff who’s battling Alzheimer’s, an ex-marine wrestling with PTSD, and a part-time deputy juggling his duties as a lawman and his crystal meth abuse. The richness of the characters kept me deeply engaged. The fluid prose carried me from page to page, and I didn't want to put the book down. “Pale Horses” took me for a ride and carried me all the way to its explosive and heartbreaking conclusion.
