An Anonymous Girl

The researcher in me was immediately horrified by the unethical nature of the research that is the premise for the novel, but the escapist reader in me lapped it up. Jess is a make-up artist working contract gigs in NYC after being unable to find success doing make up in the theater world. Hard up for cash, as she secretly supports her family by paying some of her disabled sister's medical bills, she talks her way into one of her client's spots in a research study on morality and ethics. Seems like easy money and very soon, she's offered an opportunity to expand her participation with the mysterious Dr. Shields for even more cold hard cash. But as she spends more time with Dr. Shields she soon finds herself well over her head in a manipulative game of cat and mouse. This story will keep you turning pages til the bitter end.

3.5 I found this book to be very up and down...at some points a 5, but at other points a 2.

3.75. Rounded up to a 4.0 because I simply couldn’t put this book down. Had me at the edge of my seat but somewhat disappointed by the ending. Clearly two very talented authors who know their genre. (Can we finally stop this “Girl” in the book title trend?

Slow beginning but it really picked up towards the end.

Fast read— liked the alternating viewpoints.

This book was a good thriller, not anything exceptional. I enjoyed that it took place in NYC, but I felt the ending was rushed & slightly hard to believe based on the overall character development through the novel.

A pretty good read, though confusing.

I particularly liked the way the authors wrote the narration. I generally don't enjoy dual narration stories but this was well done. Twisty, thoughtful and exciting to read!

This was definitely a different one. So many authors use alternating characters but having one voice be in first person and the other in second was something I haven’t seen much.

Jessica slips her way into an ethics study because she needs some extra cash. She doesn’t realize that she’s just aligned herself with someone who is not who they seem to be.

Some parts did drag a little but I was intrigued and kept going trying to figure out exactly what the end game was. The very end is a little to off character for me to believe but I was still satisfied with it.
