this book had me at the edge of my seat! it had me questioning everybody

A clean, sleek, posh presentation of the character(s) and a good story behind it. Still did not hit the top of the brain. But overall deep and well mounted story.

I'm giving this book a whole FIVE STARS (no rounding or anything) because what was that... like actually... I was quite literally on the edge of my seat the whole time while I was reading this. Toward the end, I felt like I could barely breathe. It was like watching a "fight to the death" between the protagonist and antagonist.

One thing I liked about this book was that the action, manipulation, and distress never seemed to falter. This book follows Jessica Harris, a 28-year-old makeup artist, who is kinda-sorta struggling financially. While doing one of her client's makeup, she finds out that said client is going to be paid to be a subject in a research study. However, Jessica's client claims she doesn't want to go, so Jessica takes her spot. Soon enough, she figures out that there is no turning back from the decision she made. She is eternally... trapped... with 30-something-year-old Dr. Shields who believes Jessica can help her figure out why her husband cheated. Jessica becomes Dr. Shields' pawn, and she won't let Jessica leave... like ever.

I felt like the execution of everything in this book was all done so well. The whole "my husband had an affair and I want revenge" trope is kind of a recurring one (from what I've read recently). However, the author twists that idea in a way that the story is not 100% about that. This book allows you to be fully immersed in it to the point where you are begging that the plot goes your way (insert me screaming at every single character).

But yeah! I don't think I will ever recover from this book.

As always, Greer and Sarah did not disappoint. I had to put myself in a different state of mind while reading Jessica’s part. She is twenty-eight and naive, not yet tainted by the horrors of our world. I understood why she bent so easily at Dr. Shield’s demands. I have to say that this book kept me guessing at every turn. I eagerly turned the page, wanting to know what happened next. The outcome was truly satisfying, yet at the same time heartbreaking. To know that in just a few months, an innocent woman was turned into the monsters that kept her up at night.

Pretty wild and kind of far fetched. I didn’t feel like I could root for any of the characters, but it’s a page turner and I definitely wanted closure.

This was a fun ride. I was so addicted to this book, I couldn’t put it down, or stop thinking about it when I had to. I was really into the psychological/ psychiatric aspects of this book, which I found to be incredibly interesting.

I wasn’t a fan of this writing duo’s first novel, and this book is SO HYPED that I was worried I might have too high of expectations. I went into this book not really knowing anything about the plot, and I think that’s the best way to read this. Basically a young woman gets her way into a study being done on morals and ethics and dark and twisty things (my favorite) ensue.

This didn’t get a 5 star for me because the ending was a bit unfulfilling and all of the little twists and lies towards the end I found a little hard follow along with. Overall this was a wildly entertaining read.
