This gripped me from start to finish, saw me through the 21/2 hours of a half marathon, and had me almost turning the book off because of the unbearable tension. Absolutely rock solid psychological thriller.

4.9 Stars - Precise, Deceptive and Decadent Thriller
Flipping Brilliant! I love this book!
This meticulously alluring psychological thriller is perfect for the inner-psychologist in all of us. The one that loves to observe, control and hunt for it's next source of info, play or prey.
The first half is purposely slower. Like a fine wine, each tone must be enjoyed carefully, seducing us right up until the moment our lip is cut from the sharp cracks on the wine glass edges. This type of steady seduction tingles my senses - and I wouldn't have it any other way!
The observational writing told in two-person perspective, sharpens our senses and heightens our pleasure centres, holding us captive in this mysterious study of morality and ethics on our protagonist, Jessica. The researcher, Dr. Shields, marvels us with perfection: her intelligence, wealth and compassion. Jessica is our charming and wild card youth, working hard to make ends meet. She takes a risk and enlists herself into a study promising compensation, in place of someone else, and finds herself enticed and immersed in the convoluted world of research.
As a Psychology graduate myself, I am continuously looking for writing as brilliant as this. It's both poetic and orderly, a perfect merger in my mind. This powerhouse duo - Hendricks and Pekkanen -reliably weave together another seamless story to be enthralled by, and I highly, highly recommend! Very excited for future instalments.
[My only concern is that from my studies, I know that a lot of these research requests are highly unethical, and this makes some of the story implausible. But I love the story too much so I deducted a minor point]

Not the best I've ever read but I'm here for the cheap thrills! The story had me hooked from the beginning and the twists had me shooketh all the way to the end. I loved the choice for Dr. Shields's dialogue to be so cold, clinical, and calculating--she is a truly despicable and narcissistic psychopath. The other characters were pretty flat, but the drama had me screaming internally, so it's as entertaining as any reality show.

I was at the edge of my seat during the tense moment, sprinkled with the right moments of calm and serenity, the stakes getting higher and higher.
I am absolutely impressed with the writing style and I would read more from the authors as well as rereading this novel. I don't usually re-read thrillers, but this book deserves it!!! #

This book....if I hadn't done this as a buddy read I would have read it in one sitting.
Through the whole book, you really don't know who to trust. One minute you're thinking it's one person and then something is revealed or said and it makes you second guess yourself.
I definitely enjoyed the book but the ending was a little lackluster for me.
