An Anonymous Girl

It’s a page turner! There were some aspects that seemed slightly hokey, but overall, it was a suspenseful and entertaining read.

I had some issues going into the story, finding it a tad unbelievable. But about 1/4 way through I started to look at my initial judgements differently. By the end of the book I was aware of my own prejudice in a variety of ways. I can’t quite find the words, but I thought this book brought me some profound insights into the human psyche. That’s my personal take from this book.
I took a full 7 days to read the first half of the book. Then I finished the second half in less that a day.

Starting 2019 with a hot new release ✨

An Anonymous Girl was hard to put down. The writing is really compelling and I loved the perspectives that were given. Although I think it was too long. The section from 25% to 50% of the book, before things picks up, was full of repetitive self doubt that could have easily been cut without taking anything from the story.

Overall I loved the concept and the complex story. But it's better to know beforehand that the marketing makes it sound so extreme while this was pretty mild.

Suspenseful yes, surprising, no. The characters were interesting, the book moved well, but I found the ending to be a let down.

The premise of a pysch experiment turned deadly wasn't really enough to carry this. The stakes felt low and the twists like that of a LIfetime movie.

I loved the Wife Between Us (by the same authors), but this one was a disappointment for me! I found it interesting at first, but then the plot became far too repetitive. It certainly wasn't as mysterious or thrilling as their previous book! I contemplated not finishing it.

Jess is a makeup artist in NYC struggling to make ends meet when she jumps on an opportunity to make $500 to participate in a study about morality. She honestly answers questions, revealing deep guilt about her sister's accident and promiscuous behavior. More money lures her further into the study until she realizes she has become entangled in a situation that may destroy her life.

I listened to the audio version, and the book held my interest throughout. It wasn't one of my favorites, just because I don't normally read this genre. But overall it is a nice psychological drama.

I enjoy how the authors constantly leave you guessing as to which of the characters is actually the victim and villain - or do they share a bit of each? If you enjoyed the Wife Between Us then definitely give this a read.
