Eh. Not as great as The Wife Between Us. A bit all over the place.
The moment I first discovered An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen, I knew I HAD to read the book. I read their first collaboration, The Wife Between Us, last year and enjoyed the story SO much, and I was so curious to see what new story would come in this new book. I have to say, these two authors really know how to write, and this book had me HOOKED!
Let me start this by saying that I LOVE a good book that keeps me guessing. Since I read so much, I often times manage to figure out a plot very early on in a book, which can get old after a while. That did not happen with this book. It totally kept me guessing as I flew through the pages, and I was suspicious of every single character along the way. Not enough books keep me guessing, and I love when one actually does!
An Anonymous Girl is full of interesting characters, including the main character, Jess. I found myself relating to Jess more than a few times throughout the story, as I, too, sometimes feel like just another anonymous girl. I definitely felt the same paranoia that she experienced as the story went along, though had I been put in her shoes, I would not have handled things nearly as well. Dr. Shields was such mystery, I never knew what to expect from her, and she definitely freaked me out more than a few times as the story went along. This book is full of completely fascinating characters, and everyone was a suspect.
The storyline for this book was absolutely addictive. It was intense and mysterious, and kept me on the edge of my seat as I flew through the pages. Did I mention already that I love a book that will keep me guessing?? I do. And this book totally did that. I found myself wondering what in the world was going on in the story, and what was going to happen next. So many secrets. So much mystery. Ah, I loved it!
Overall; I do believe that Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen have yet another hit on their hands with An Anonymous Girl! I very much enjoyed this story, and I really, really hope that these authors continue to write more books together in the future. If you’re looking for a good mystery thriller to read, do check out An Anonymous Girl, and The Wife Between Us as well! Both books are really great.
Happy Reading!

Co-written books are always so interesting to me. I can't understand how it would work, but apparently it does!
I preordered An Anonymous Girl without even reading [b: The Wife Between Us|34189556|The Wife Between Us|Greer Hendricks|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1496862122s/34189556.jpg|55227731] because the synopsis was so enticing and I wasn't disappointed. This is a creepy, fascinating book that keeps you guessing, and having the chapters alternate between Jess' and Dr. Shields' perspectives kept me interesting. I'm also a sucker for switching up typically narrative styles, so I loved use of second person throughout Dr. Shields' chapters.
For some reason, though, I feel like this book was missing something that would bump it up from 4 to 5 stars for me. Maybe it's because there wasn't a huge twist at the end - the big questions of the book are answered pretty early on. This isn't my favorite book of 2019 so far, but it's still definitely worth reading.

Eh, the characters in this book were stupid. Just layer after layer of subterfuge for no real reason. Everyone was also mentally unstable, which I guess was the point? In the end there was no one to root for.

What a shame, I thought I’d like this one:/ The beginning got me hooked; I was so into the mysterious and twisted setting in which the MC somehow traps herself in her own self-projected guilt, in addition to there being an element of external supervision and judgement of which she has no control over. (Has anyone watched Solo Leveling? The opening in that one got similar vibes).
However, I lost all interest once the mystery boiled down to 3 normal, boring people having beef with each other. Lydia, get over yourself. I got the impression that this is a story that will be gone from my head in not that long.
On another note, let’s talk thriller audiobooks. I’ve never read a thriller with my own two eyeballs, and I think I’ll keep it that way. Audiobook format is just superior. Yes, give me those shivers down my spine while I’m out in public. Freak me out while I’m doing dishes. Keep me on edge of paranoia while I’m showering.
Well, none of the stuff I’m listening to is ever THAT creepy, but I like a little kick of twisted eerieness in my daily and (thankfully) generally peaceful and safe life. I just wish it was easier to filter out the good ones!

I listened to the audiobook version.
I would give this book 4.5 stars. The first half was a tad slow, but not boring. I wasn't sure where the story was going. I kept thinking I knew how things would turn out, and I was wrong just about every time. I love that! The second half of the book, especially by the time 60% hit was incredibly engaging and made it hard to put down!
I liked the audio version with 2 narrators, one for each main protagonist. I wasn't in love with either woman's character, and yet I still was pulled into the story. Can't ask for much more than that!
