The day is coming to an end. Dinner is over, the dishes are done, pajamas are on, teeth are brushed...as each step of his bedtime routine is finished, a little boy is certain - it is not time for sleeping. I loved this sweet book about a little boy's reluctance to go to bed. It has colorful illustrations and flowing, easy repeating text. My favorite part is its very sweet end, as all that he needs before he goes to sleep is a hug from Mom and Dad.

A bedtime ritual is lovingly illustrated in this cute cozy book. Each part of the ritual builds on the next as a little boy gets ready for bed. The illustrations are both intimate and brilliantly hued. Great story to start a conversation about patterns and rituals with kids.

I really like the way the illustrations just seem to jump off the page; there is something different about them. I could see this book as a nighttime ritual. The inclusion of the dog makes another layer of cuteness.

November 2016 - a really soothing, sweet and funny bedtime story. The cumulative text is great for reading aloud, I love Castillo's illustrations, the family feels both specific and universal, and I loved that the repeated refrain of "it is not time for sleeping" wasn't a fight against bedtime, but a careful awareness on the boy's part of each step of the bedtime routine. For a kid who loves his bedtime routine like Ben, this is perfect. The last few pages slow down until finally it IS time for sleeping.

The story builds upon itself (like the house that jack built) on all the tasks that have to be done before the little boy can go to sleep.
